What does pregnancy period mean?

The pregnancy period refers to the period from when a woman becomes pregnant until she gives birth to her baby. Women are prone to various pregnancy reactions during pregnancy. For example, in the early stages of pregnancy, that is, when they are just pregnant, many expectant mothers will experience vomiting and drowsiness, while some will have anorexia and be picky eaters. Expectant mothers do not need to worry or be afraid, as these are all normal pregnancy reactions. Severe vomiting during pregnancy requires medical treatment.

1. What is the pregnancy period?

Gestation refers to the physiological period from conception to delivery. It is a physiological term, also known as the pregnancy period. It usually takes about 266 days from the fertilization of the mature egg to the delivery of the fetus. For ease of calculation, pregnancy is usually counted from the first day of the last menstrual period, and full-term pregnancy is approximately 280 days (40 weeks).

2. What is pregnancy reaction

Pregnancy reaction refers to the physiological reaction of women during pregnancy. Pregnant women usually have anorexia, picky eating, mild nausea, vomiting and other symptoms around 6 weeks of pregnancy. This is called early pregnancy reaction and often heals itself around 12 weeks. A small number of pregnant women experience severe vomiting, refuse to eat, and even suffer from dehydration, electrolyte imbalance and metabolic disorders. This is called hyperemesis gravidarum. The cause is unclear, but it is generally believed that it may be related to the excessive increase in human chorionic gonadotropin.

3. Treatment of pregnancy reactions

1. Pregnancy reaction is a physiological phenomenon. Eliminate concerns, build confidence, and cooperate with treatment.

2. Rest and exercise, rest in bed, and keep the room clean, quiet and ventilated. Eliminate factors that may cause vomiting and avoid mental stimulation. After the condition improves, patients are encouraged to get out of bed and move around appropriately to help restore digestive function.

3. Diet: temporarily fast for 24-48 hours. Give fluids by vein. Try to eat after vomiting stops. Choose light, nutritious and tasty foods, and eat small meals frequently.

4. Precautions during pregnancy

1. Don’t take medicine for the flu

If a pregnant woman has a cold, antibiotics should not be used unless there is clear evidence of bacterial infection. Cough medicines and cough remedies are generally safe, but cough suppressants containing iodine preparations should not be used in pregnant women.

2. Early treatment of diarrhea in pregnant women

Diarrhea in pregnant women may lead to miscarriage or premature birth. Do not eat, but replenish fluids appropriately. While replenishing fluids, carefully observe whether the fetus is in good condition and whether there are any signs of miscarriage or premature birth. If the fetus is in abnormal condition, go to the hospital for treatment immediately.

3. Vaginal bleeding

If you notice vaginal bleeding, even if it's only a small amount, you should go to the hospital for treatment immediately. Even if vaginal bleeding seems to have stopped. While a small amount of vaginal bleeding may not be a big deal for an expectant mother, it can be a sign of something serious.

4. Pay attention to your sleeping posture

In late pregnancy (8 to 10 months), the left side decubitus position should be adopted. This lying position can correct the enlargement of the right uterus, reduce the pressure of the uterus on the abdominal aorta and radial artery, increase the blood supply to the fetus, and is beneficial to the growth and development of the fetus.
