How often should I change my contraceptive ring?

The contraceptive ring is something placed in the female uterus. This kind of thing has a certain shelf life, just like the common food and daily necessities we usually have. If this thing is still used after the shelf life, it will not only bring no benefits to women, but also lead to some irreversible consequences. Therefore, the contraceptive ring should be replaced every once in a while. So how often should the contraceptive ring be replaced?

The placement time of IUDs made of different materials is different. Stainless steel metal rings can be placed for 15 to 20 years; silicone, plastic or other types of IUDs can be placed for 5 to 7 years.

It is generally better to replace it every 5 years. If it is replaced for too long, it will easily become deformed and displaced. The IUD is usually removed 6 months to 3 years after menopause.

If you have or are going to choose an IUD as a contraceptive method, don't worry if side effects occur. As long as you find out the cause and prescribe the right medicine, things will generally get better. If there is no improvement, it means you are not suitable for wearing an IUD. You can choose other contraceptive methods, which can also achieve the ideal contraceptive effect.

Note: Take appropriate amount of anti-infection and hemostatic drugs after removing the IUD.

Watch for bleeding. Some women will experience bleeding after the removal of the IUD. There may be a small amount of vaginal bleeding or bloody leucorrhea, which usually disappears on its own in a day or two. This is because the removal of the IUD stimulates the endometrium and cervix, which is a normal phenomenon. However, if the vaginal bleeding is heavy or the bleeding time is long, it is an abnormal phenomenon and you should seek medical treatment in time.

After removing the IUD, keep the vagina clean and hygienic, wash the genitals with warm water every day, and avoid catching cold.

Do not have sexual intercourse within two weeks after removing the IUD, and do not take a sitz bath or tub bath to prevent infection and inflammation, which will not be conducive to a speedy recovery after removing the IUD. This is also one of the precautions when removing the IUD.

Pay attention to nutrition and eat more iron-containing foods to prevent anemia caused by excessive menstrual blood.

Within 3 months after the IUD removal surgery, when there is heavy menstrual bleeding or constipation, you should pay attention to check whether the ring has fallen off, and pay attention to keeping the bowels open.

After the ring is removed, an X-ray fluoroscopy or a B-type ultrasound examination is required. And women should also rest for one day after having their IUD removed.
