What happens if uterine fibroids are severe?

Most uterine fibroids have no obvious symptoms and cannot be detected. If not treated in time, they can easily cause various harms, such as infertility, miscarriage, gynecological inflammation, secondary anemia, etc. So what happens if uterine fibroids are more serious? Next, let’s take a look at the more serious injuries. I hope it will be helpful to everyone.

1. Infertility or miscarriage

If uterine fibroid tissue appears in the uterine cornu, it can compress the channels of the bilateral fallopian tubes, preventing male sperm from ascending to the bilateral fallopian tubes and fusing with the egg cells, thus affecting pregnancy; causing deformation of the uterus, hindering embryo implantation and preventing pregnancy. Even if the sperm and egg combine and the embryo implants, a large uterine fibroid combined with pregnancy can easily cause miscarriage due to reflexive obstruction of embryo development and intrauterine infection.

2. Cause gynecological inflammation

Uterine fibroids can cause pelvic congestion and infection, among which the infection caused by uterine fibroids is mostly caused by pedicle torsion. After infection, cysts may form in the uterine fibroid tissue of a very small number of patients, and suppuration may occur. In addition, the pathogens infected by uterine fibroids can invade other nearby organs of the human body, causing gynecological diseases such as adnexitis and pelvic inflammatory disease.

3. Secondary anemia

Uterine fibroids can cause excessive menstrual bleeding in patients. Over time, patients will develop secondary anemia, which is mainly manifested by symptoms such as general fatigue, pale complexion, palpitations and chest tightness.

4. Malignant disease

A very small number of women may experience uterine fibroids that turn into tumors, causing vaginal bleeding and lower abdominal pain. In the late stage, they can spread through the blood circulation, directly spread, and metastasize to multiple parts of the body through the lymph nodes.

How big is a uterine fibroid?

Generally speaking, if the uterine fibroids exceed 5cm, it indicates that the condition is serious and needs to be removed surgically immediately. However, the actual treatment plan needs to be determined based on the individual's age, clinical symptoms and endocrine condition.
