The most common complications of ovarian tumors, be sure to read this!

The ovaries are very important for women. We must pay attention to the care of the ovaries in daily life. Once we suffer from ovarian diseases, it may affect our fertility. Ovarian tumor is a common malignant tumor disease in women. It poses a great threat to women’s health and can also cause various complications. What are the most common complications of ovarian tumor?

Common complications:

1. Pedicle torsion: a common gynecological acute abdomen. It often occurs in tumors with long pedicles, medium size and good mobility. The typical symptoms are severe pain in one side of the lower abdomen, often accompanied by nausea and vomiting. Gynecological examination revealed that the tumor had great tension and tenderness, which was most obvious at the tumor pedicle. Sometimes incomplete torsion can be naturally reduced, and the abdominal pain will be relieved. Once pedicle torsion is confirmed, laparotomy should be performed as soon as possible.

2. Rupture: There are two types: spontaneous and traumatic. The severity of the symptoms depends on the size of the rupture and the nature and amount of cystic fluid that flows into the abdominal cavity. It often causes severe abdominal pain, accompanied by nausea and vomiting, and sometimes leads to intra-abdominal hemorrhage, peritonitis and shock. Gynecological examination may reveal abdominal tenderness, tense abdominal muscles, and the inability to feel the original mass or a shrunken and hypotonic mass. If a tumor rupture is suspected, laparotomy should be performed immediately. During the operation, the cystic fluid should be aspirated as much as possible, and a cytological examination should be performed, and the abdominal and pelvic cavities should be cleaned.

3. Infection: It is mostly caused by tumor twisting or rupture, or it may be caused by the spread of infection foci in adjacent organs such as appendix abscess. Symptoms include fever, abdominal pain, lumps, abdominal tenderness and rebound pain, abdominal muscle tension and increased white blood cell count. Treatment should first be antibiotics to fight infection, followed by surgery to remove the tumor. If the infection cannot be controlled in a short period of time, surgery should be performed immediately.

4. Malignant transformation of ovary: Benign tumors can become malignant. There are no symptoms in the early stages of malignancy and it is difficult to detect. If a tumor is found to be growing rapidly, especially bilaterally, malignancy should be suspected. Therefore, patients diagnosed with ovarian tumors should undergo surgery as soon as possible.
