What is the cause of brown vaginal discharge?

1. Physiological brown vaginal discharge: Physiological brown vaginal discharge often occurs before and after women's menstruation and during ovulation. It is a normal physiological symptom and a manifestation of female ovulation bleeding. When the ovulation period ends, the color of leucorrhea will return to normal white.

2. Pathological brown leucorrhea: Pathological brown leucorrhea refers to irregular vaginal bleeding in women, and brown leucorrhea may have two reasons:

(1) Caused by IUD insertion: It may be discomfort after the IUD is inserted. If the discomfort is obvious, you should go to the hospital for examination to see if the IUD is placed normally.

(2) Caused by disease: Most cases of brown vaginal discharge are caused by cervical diseases, which may be a precursor to severe cervical erosion, cervical polyps, or even malignant tumors such as cervical cancer. In order to rule out this pathological brown vaginal discharge, it is recommended to go to the hospital for examination and symptomatic treatment in time.

How to prevent brown vaginal discharge

1. Hygiene and cleaning before and after menstruation: Pay attention to cleaning the vagina during menstruation to prevent infection with bacteria. Regardless of whether your menstrual flow is heavy or light, you must choose a sanitary napkin that is breathable and relatively "thin".

2. Live a regular life and avoid overwork: staying up late, overwork, and irregular life can lead to irregular menstruation and may also affect leucorrhea. Maintain a regular lifestyle and rest habits, and leucorrhea and menstruation will gradually return to normal.

3. Appropriate exercise: Do more pelvic exercises and lower abdominal exercises to effectively improve the blood circulation of the uterus. It is very helpful for women to have a smooth menstrual period, dysmenorrhea or normal ovulation, and effectively prevent the occurrence of brown vaginal discharge symptoms.

4. Pay attention to your diet: Eat more iron-containing and nutritious foods. Women who have brown vaginal discharge after menstruation should supplement with enough iron to avoid iron deficiency anemia. Eat less spicy, greasy and cold foods, and eat more foods that nourish the spleen and kidneys and clear away heat and dampness, such as lotus seeds, jujubes, yam, coix seeds, winter melon seeds, etc. Try to eat less cold foods, such as pears, water chestnuts, persimmons, snails, etc.

What should I do if my vaginal discharge is brown?

1. Regular check-ups: Even if you do not feel any discomfort, you should still have regular check-ups. It is best to have a comprehensive gynecological examination once a year.

2. Wear less tight pants or jeans, and choose cotton underwear.

3. Not using sanitary pads on a daily basis: Pads have poor air permeability and are not hygienic for long-term use. If you use pads that are not properly disinfected, the effect will be counterproductive. In addition, it is not advisable to frequently use various medicinal liquids to clean the vagina. Doing so will damage the vaginal environment, cause dysbacteriosis and induce vaginitis.
