What causes bleeding in pregnant women?

We all know that pregnant women generally experience amenorrhea during pregnancy, but occasional small amounts of vaginal bleeding is also normal. However, some expectant mothers are very worried about whether vaginal bleeding will affect themselves and their babies. Today, I will talk to you about the causes of vaginal bleeding during pregnancy. I hope it will be helpful to you.

Vaginal bleeding during pregnancy is a sign that the pregnancy is in a dangerous state. The amount of bleeding may be as much as hundreds of milliliters or as little as a few milliliters. Generally, the greater the amount of bleeding, the more critical the situation, but not all bleeding is visible, so clinically the patient's condition is not assessed solely based on the amount of bleeding that can be seen. In addition, the amount of bleeding of different diseases is sometimes not proportional to their actual severity.

The causes and clinical significance of bleeding in the three different stages of pregnancy, early, mid and late, are generally different, and the treatment methods are also different.

1. Early pregnancy (before 12 weeks of pregnancy)

Common bleeding is caused by miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy.

2. Second trimester (13-27 weeks of pregnancy)

Common causes include bleeding due to cervical insufficiency and hydatidiform mole.

3. Late pregnancy (28 weeks of pregnancy to delivery)

Common causes include placenta previa and placental abruption.

When the fertilized egg implants in the endometrium, it affects the tiny blood vessels in the endometrium and causes punctate implantation bleeding. This usually occurs during the menstrual cycle and is mostly normal.

Light vaginal bleeding or brown discharge during the first three months of pregnancy, sometimes accompanied by abdominal or back pain, is often a sign of miscarriage.

Late miscarriage after 12 weeks of pregnancy is rarely associated with chromosomal abnormalities. A molar pregnancy is a condition in which the fetus does not develop normally. Most miscarriages in the middle or late stages are caused by a normal fetus that cannot continue to develop due to various reasons. For example, severe uterine fibroids can make the uterus unable to maintain pregnancy.

The above is what I want to introduce to you today about the causes of vaginal bleeding during pregnancy. I hope my sharing will be helpful to you.
