White bubble on nipple during breastfeeding

White bubble on nipple during breastfeeding

The lactation period is a very important period. Any abnormality in the breast at this time may affect the feeding of the child and is also the most worrying thing. The phenomenon of white bubbles on the nipples during lactation often occurs, which can be divided into many reasons. The key is to judge according to your own situation. Only by knowing the root cause can you better solve it. So, what does it mean when there is a white bubble on the nipple during breastfeeding? Let’s take a closer look below.

There are three types of white spots on the nipples:

1. Nipple ulcers caused by nipple fissures

Generally, if there is no congestion in the milk ducts, the mother will feel severe nipple pain;

2. Small white bubbles on the nipple

There are small white bubbles on the nipple, and the nipple hole is blocked by a nearly transparent membrane, so the milk cannot come out or cannot come out smoothly; the milk duct is congested, and when the baby is feeding, the mother will feel pain in the nipple and the nerves in the breast;

3. Fat-like substances formed by dehydrated milk

This situation is more common after milk stasis or mastitis, because the milk is swollen for a long time and the milk is dehydrated. When some mothers are undergoing breast duct clearance treatment, small particles can be seen being squeezed out of the nipple, sometimes in the form of a long strip of dry milk.

What should I do if there are white spots and blisters on my nipples?

1. It is not recommended to squeeze

In theory, the small white bubbles on the nipples can be picked out with a needle, and everything will be fine once the milk flows out. But in fact, this treatment carries the risk of infection and only treats the symptoms rather than the root cause. Instead, it is prone to recurrence, and the white spots will become darker and darker.

Some mothers find the pain unbearable. If they have to squeeze, in order to avoid infection, it is very important to seek help from medical staff and disinfect the skin and instruments.

2. Breastfeeding after hot compress

Before breastfeeding, use a wet towel to warm the nipples, but be careful not to make it too hot to avoid scalding the nipple skin. It only takes a few minutes, and once you feel the warmth penetrate your skin, remove the towel immediately and let your baby start sucking in the correct breastfeeding position. If you do this several times a day for a few days, your baby is likely to burst the white bubble by sucking it.

3. Baby sucking is the best way to deal with it

Sucking it out by the baby is a temporary and permanent solution and it will not recur easily. It may not be absorbed away in one or two times, so persist for a few days and it is better to combine it with hot compress. Apply erythromycin ointment immediately after feeding, and then feed again two to three hours later. Remember to wash it off with warm water before feeding. Repeat this cycle for two days and you will generally see improvement.

4. Be kind to your breasts

Be kind to your breasts, especially your nipples, and don't wipe them with a towel or tissue. If you need to wipe off the breast milk, just wipe off the milk that flows out, as the nipples are very delicate. Don't squeeze or pinch it with your hands, as it is very risky and may cause mastitis!
