What is the granulation at the female urethra?

Women are prone to some urinary system diseases in daily life, especially in high temperature environments, which can easily lead to bacterial growth and urethral diseases. The growth of granulation tissue at the urethral orifice of women is also a relatively common phenomenon. This may be caused by urethral caruncle. Urethral caruncle is a relatively common disease and needs timely treatment.

What is the granulation at the female urethra?

Granulation tissue at the female urethral opening may be caused by caruncle.

Causes

Because it often occurs in postmenopausal women, urethral caruncle is rare in premenopausal and adolescent women, but urethral caruncle has been reported in girls as young as 2 years old. The cause of this disease has not yet been clearly elucidated. It is generally believed to be related to decreased estrogen levels.

Clinical manifestations

1. Pain at the urethral opening

Burning pain may occur, and the pain worsens during urination, activity, friction between clothes, and sexual intercourse. Sometimes it can cause frequent urination and scattered urination.

2. Contact bleeding

Contact and friction can easily cause damage, but heavy bleeding rarely occurs.

examine

1. Pathological examination

Microscopically, a large number of dilated capillaries, connective tissue and epithelial cells can be seen. The tissue examined appears as a bed of granulation tissue covered by squamous or transitional epithelium. Epithelial tissue surrounds the lesions, forming papillary structures, and inflammatory infiltrates are common.

According to the different degrees of inflammatory cell infiltration, fibrosis and varicose veins, it can be divided into the following three types:

(1) The type in which epithelial hyperplasia is dominant is called papilloma type.

(2) The type characterized by vascular proliferation is called hemangioma type.

(3) The type characterized by granulomatous proliferation is called granulomatous type.

2. Hormone test

Estrogen levels may be found to be lower than normal.

diagnosis

The disease can be diagnosed based on clinical manifestations.

treat

Asymptomatic people do not need treatment. The following treatments are available for those with symptoms:

1. Drug treatment

Proper supplementation of estrogen levels in the body is very helpful in treating the disease. Estrogen ointment can be used externally, with good results.

For patients with senile vaginitis, estrogen vaginal suppository can be used once a night for 10 to 20 days. Thereafter, treat once every 1 to 2 weeks until complete cure.

2. Surgical treatment

For those who do not heal for a long time, electrocautery, freezing, laser or surgical removal can be used. Surgical excision should include the base and the incision should be sutured.
