What should I do if my period bleeds too much?

Some women find that their menstrual flow is very heavy and they have to use more than a dozen sanitary napkins every day. Their menstrual period lasts for about 10 days, which results in excessive blood loss, leading to uncomfortable symptoms such as dizziness and weakness. Some are caused by endocrine disorders, while others indicate the presence of gynecological or blood diseases, such as uterine fibroids, tumors, blood diseases, etc. So what should you do when your period bleeding is too much?

1. Excessive menstruation

The amount of menstrual bleeding is heavy during several consecutive menstrual cycles, but the intervals between periods and the duration of bleeding are regular, with no intermenstrual bleeding, bleeding after sexual intercourse, or a sudden increase in menstrual blood. Patients with menorrhagia lose more than 80 ml of blood per menstrual cycle.

2. Causes

1. Caused by neuroendocrine dysfunction

The main problem is that the function of the hypothalamus-pituitary-ovarian axis is unstable or defective.

2. Caused by ovarian problems

Menstrual irregularities in women of childbearing age are generally due to poor ovarian corpus luteum function, which often manifests as heavy menstrual bleeding.

3. Caused by organic disease or drugs

Including local inflammation, tumors and developmental abnormalities, malnutrition of the reproductive organs; intracranial diseases; other endocrine dysfunctions, such as abnormal thyroid and adrenal cortex function, diabetes, Sheehan's disease, etc.; liver diseases; blood diseases, etc. Menorrhagia may occur in women who use psychiatric medications, endocrine preparations, or intrauterine devices for contraception.

4. Mental factors, fatigue, postpartum period, etc. can also cause heavy menstrual flow.

5. In some patients, the endometrium is rich in spiral arterioles or the vascular fragility is increased, which can also cause it.

3. Hazards

If a woman bleeds too much, she may experience dizziness and if she cannot remain still, blood circulation will be accelerated, thereby increasing the amount of bleeding. The vibration caused by the movement will also aggravate uterine bleeding.

IV. Treatment

If it is determined that excessive bleeding is caused by organic diseases, medication to stop bleeding and surgical treatment are needed. Women with excessive bleeding also need to take medical iron supplements, which can keep patients away from the harm caused by anemia and reduce the occurrence of shock and fainting! If bleeding is excessive, do not delay treatment.

5. Notes

1. Rest in bed if menstrual bleeding does not stop.

2. Keep warm if menstrual bleeding does not stop: If the amount of bleeding exceeds the normal range, or even constitutes heavy bleeding, the body temperature will drop. At this time, everyone should pay attention to keeping warm to avoid hypothermia.

3. If you lose too much blood and feel dizzy, weak or even vomit, it is recommended to go to the hospital for treatment immediately.

6. Diet therapy

If menstrual bleeding does not stop, eat more blood-enriching foods: Women will be weak and their blood will be reduced during menstruation, especially when the amount of bleeding is beyond the normal range. You must eat more protein-rich foods, and you can also eat some red dates, angelica, black beans, etc. Don't eat spicy food, otherwise it will cause congestion in the pelvis and uterus.
