Mastectomy and reconstruction

Mastectomy and reconstruction

Breasts are an important symbol of women and the pride of many women. However, when women suffer from certain diseases, they may lose their breasts. This is a huge blow to women and is difficult to accept. Current medical technology can help women reconstruct their breasts, making the process less uncomfortable both physically and mentally. If a woman wants to undergo breast reconstruction, she should communicate with her doctor based on her own situation.

Case 1

In fact, as long as conditions permit, breast reconstruction can be performed after tumor resection. Once the tumor is removed and the breast area is basically stable, we can consider breast reconstruction. Breast reconstruction begins with surgical planning, including the selection of breast reconstruction method, the shape and modeling of the new breast, tissue volume measurement, selection of the best tissue flap transfer, shaping, cosmetic modification and post-operative treatment, etc. Breast reconstruction methods can be divided into two categories: breast prosthesis reconstruction and autologous tissue reconstruction.

Case 2

Prosthetic breast reconstruction involves placing a prosthesis filled with silicone gel, silicone gel, or saline under the skin flap or under the pectoralis major muscle after mastectomy. If the local tissue cannot provide enough space to accommodate a prosthesis of the required size after a mastectomy, a skin expander can be inserted first, and water can be injected regularly after the operation. Once a sufficient cavity is formed, another operation can be performed to replace the expander with a breast prosthesis.

Case 3

Autologous fat breast reconstruction. Autologous fat breast reconstruction uses one's own tissue as the donor area and adopts the method of tissue transplantation to reconstruct the breast. By choosing to use one's own materials for breast augmentation surgery, it can be integrated with the body quickly after the operation, and there will be no side effects after the operation, and there will be no rejection.

Case 4

Breast reconstruction surgery not only creates a perfect breast body, but also creates realistic nipples and areolas. There are many surgical methods for breast reconstruction, and different situations have different solutions. The skin flap method to reconstruct the nipple and areola provides a larger amount of tissue, better blood supply, better sensation recovery, and the nipple can maintain a certain height and be more upright. In addition, there are also methods such as filling with dermal scar tissue or tissue substitutes to increase the convexity of the nipple.
