Among them, coarse calcification (including hollow calcification) usually occurs in benign lesions; scattered calcifications, whether coarse calcification or microcalcification, are all benign calcifications; diffusely distributed microcalcifications, if not locally clustered, are usually also benign lesions. Segmental and clustered short-rod-shaped and branched microcalcifications should be considered malignant, with a malignancy risk of over 90%, and are mostly ductal carcinoma in situ or invasive ductal carcinoma.

Third, the majority of breast calcifications are benign. Analysis of its properties requires a combination of information such as size, morphology, distribution, and clinical history. Malignant calcifications require active treatment, while benign calcifications and possible benign calcifications can be followed up and reviewed. In short, calcification lesions with different characteristics and properties on breast X-ray need to be treated differently. Calcification images may also be one of the manifestations of breast cancer, which may be caused by the necrosis of breast cancer cells or their secretions. Malignant calcifications often have irregular shapes, such as bifurcated shapes, linear shapes, etc. They are often distributed in clusters or form linear distributions along the milk ducts, and may sometimes appear combined. The vast majority are benign.
