Recipes for postpartum milk production

Recipes for postpartum milk production

Women will observe confinement after giving birth because their bodies are at their weakest. During this period, they mainly feed their babies with breast milk, which is the best nutrition for babies. However, many mothers do not have enough milk to provide their babies with adequate nutrition. So what foods should mothers eat during the confinement period? Today I will introduce to you a complete list of recipes for postpartum milk-producing meals.

When it comes to foods that increase milk production, many people think of pig's trotters, fish, chicken soup, etc., but few people think of vegetables. In fact, the lactation effect of some vegetables is no worse than that of high-protein foods. Moreover, due to their high fiber and low fat effects, they can also solve the two major problems of constipation and weight loss for new mothers after childbirth. Doctors say these four vegetables are the most suitable for postpartum women to eat to increase milk production, especially the first one, which many people don’t know!

1. Wild Rice

Wild rice is not only delicious but also nutritious. It contains carbohydrates, protein, vitamins B1, B2, vitamin C and various minerals. Chinese medicine believes that茭白 is sweet and cold in nature, and has the effects of relieving heat and toxins, preventing thirst, promoting defecation and promoting lactation. Nowadays, water bamboo shoots and pig’s trotters are often cooked together and eaten, which has a good lactation effect.

2. Peas

Peas, also known as green beans, are sweet and flat in nature and are very rich in phosphorus, containing about 400 mg per 100 grams. Peas are beneficial for urination, producing body fluids, relieving sores, stopping diarrhea, and promoting lactation. Cooking green peas and eating them lightly, or mashing the pea sprouts and squeezing out the juice to drink, can both help promote lactation.

3. Lettuce

There are two types of lettuce: leaf lettuce and stem lettuce. Leaf lettuce is also known as "lettuce", while stem lettuce is called "lettuce". Both contain various rich nutrients. According to analysis, except for iron, the content of all other nutrients is higher in leaves than in stems. Therefore, when eating lettuce, it is best not to discard the leaves. Lettuce is bitter and cold in nature, and has the effect of promoting lactation. Postpartum women with low milk production can eat lettuce and roasted pig's trotters. This way of eating not only reduces greasiness, is refreshing and delicious, but is also more effective in promoting lactation than using only pig's trotters.

4. Daylily

Daylily is very nutritious, containing 14.1 grams of protein per 100 grams of dry product, which is almost the same as animal meat. In addition, it also contains a large amount of vitamins B1, B2, etc. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that day lily has the effects of dispelling dampness and heat, relieving chest tightness, promoting diuresis, stopping bleeding, and promoting lactation. To treat postpartum milk retention, stewing lean pork with day lily is very effective.

The best way for a baby to produce milk is by sucking the nipple. Continuous breastfeeding can keep the mother's prolactin level high and ensure that the child has enough time to suck to empty the breasts, so that the milk will come in an endless supply.

For mothers who use a breast pump, the more times they express milk and the longer they spend expressing milk, the more milk they will produce. In addition, mothers are reminded that pumping milk from both sides at the same time will increase the milk supply more than pumping milk from one side at a time.

Eat a balanced diet and stay hydrated

The most abundant substance in breast milk is water, followed by protein. Therefore, you should replenish water at any time and eat more soups and watery foods. The diet during breastfeeding should be high in calories, protein, vitamins, iron, calcium and other nutritional values. For example: fish soup, pork rib soup, rye juice, chicken soup, sesame paste, etc., so that you can have high-quality and abundant breast milk.

Sufficient sleep and optimal breastfeeding posture

Lack of sleep will of course reduce the amount of milk. Only when the mother gets enough rest and sleep can she have sufficient milk. Babies often need to drink milk in the middle of the night. Mothers must learn to lie down and feed them so that they can rest and feed at the same time, allowing themselves to get enough sleep as much as possible so that there is enough milk. During the day, you can ask your husband or family to help look after the baby, and you can take a nap.
