Why do I feel thirsty before my period?

For female friends, menstruation is like an old friend. Basically, it comes every month. It is troublesome if it comes, and even more troublesome if it does not come. Before menstruation, the body will generally have some reactions to tell you that menstruation is coming, such as swollen breasts and lower abdominal pain. Feeling thirsty and so on are all physiological reactions before menstruation and are normal. However, many people have questions about thirst before menstruation. Let's talk about what is going on when you are thirsty before menstruation.

1. When women have their period, because of the discharge of blood from the uterus, a large amount of water will flow out of the body, and they will feel thirsty. In this case, we need to drink more than twice the usual amount of water to relieve this situation.

Irregular menstruation is caused by insufficient kidney yang. The specific types are as follows:

(1) Stomach heat

Having stomach heat, or eating too much spicy, fatty, and greasy food, etc., will lead to excessive Yangming heat. During menstruation, the Chong Qi is strong, and the Chong Mai belongs to the Yangming, which makes the Yangming heat even more severe. Burns from taking body fluids cause thirst.

(2) Deficiency of lung and stomach yin

The lung and stomach are often deficient in yin, or long-term illness has damaged yin fluid, and menstruation also consumes yin blood, which makes the yin deficiency in the lung and stomach even worse. The yin deficiency and fluid loss lead to loss of nourishment and worse thirst.

(3) Kidney Yin Deficiency

If one has kidney yin deficiency or suffers from a long-term or serious illness that damages kidney yin, the yin blood will leak downward during menstruation, causing kidney yin to become even more deficient. Yin deficiency will cause internal heat, which will damage body fluids and cause thirst.

(4) Blood stasis

The stagnation of blood circulation hinders the smooth flow of blood, causing blood stasis inside the body. During menstruation, the blood stasis cannot be discharged smoothly, resulting in the poor distribution of body fluids and thirst.

2. Because more blood will flow during menstruation, especially on the second and third days, the amount of blood will be relatively large. You should add a little sugar to the drinking water to avoid anemia in weak people.

3. In terms of diet, you should eat more nutritious food. If your lips are dry, you can also apply some honey water or a little milk on your lips to alleviate this phenomenon.
