What to do if you have a urinary tract infection in late pregnancy

Regarding the question of what to do if you have a urinary tract infection in late pregnancy, relevant personnel said that you only need to use medication to treat it, but you must ensure whether the medication will affect the baby's health, so pregnant women need to be treated under the doctor's instructions. People in the late stages of pregnancy who suffer from urinary tract infections can use amoxicillin to treat them. In normal times, they must pay attention to drinking plenty of water and taking good care of their genital hygiene to prevent the condition from worsening.

Treatment of urinary tract infection during late pregnancy :

If you develop cystitis during pregnancy, or if your urinary tract tests positive for bacteria during your first pregnancy checkup, your doctor will prescribe 7 to 10 days of oral antibiotics (many antibiotics are safe to take during pregnancy). If you already have symptoms of cystitis, these symptoms will most likely ease after taking antibiotics for a few days, but you must continue to take the medication to complete the full course of treatment in order to completely eliminate all bacteria in the urinary tract!

After you finish treating your cystitis, you'll need to be tested again to make sure the infection is completely gone. You should also have regular urine cultures throughout your pregnancy to make sure you don't have another UTI. You should know that 40% of pregnant women who have had a urinary tract infection will have another urinary tract infection. If you have recurring bladder infections, you may need to continue taking low-dose antibiotics until your baby is born to prevent recurring UTIs.

If you develop nephritis while you are pregnant, you will need to be hospitalized so that doctors can give you antibiotics through an IV and monitor you for signs of premature labor. After nephritis is cured, you will need regular checkups and may need to take antibiotics throughout your pregnancy as a preventive measure because you may get nephritis again.

How to prevent urinary tract infection in pregnant women

1. Drink more water, at least 8 glasses of water a day (about 240 ml per glass).

2. Don’t hold your urine. Empty your bladder completely when urinating.

3. Wipe from front to back after defecation to prevent bacteria in the stool from being brought near the urethra. Keep your genitals clean by washing them with mild soap and water.

4. Wash the genital area and urinate before and after sexual intercourse.

5. Drink some cranberry juice. Studies have shown that bilberry juice can reduce the level of bacteria in the urinary tract and reduce the number of new bacteria that are deposited in the urinary tract. However, drinking cranberry juice will not cure a UTI that has already occurred, so if you already have symptoms of a UTI, you still need to see a doctor immediately and take antibiotics prescribed by your doctor to treat the UTI.

6. Do not use feminine cleaning products (sprays or powders) or strong alkaline soaps that may irritate the urethra and genitals, as this will make the genitals more likely to become a breeding ground for bacteria. Do not douche during pregnancy.

7. Wear pure cotton underwear and pure cotton crotch pantyhose.
