Can women get dental fillings during menstruation?

Toothache is something that everyone fears, but you don’t know when the toothache will start. And filling a tooth is not something that can be done at any time. For example, you cannot have a filling when you have a toothache. However, many people only think of filling a tooth when they have a toothache. Also, you cannot have a filling during menstruation because fillings should be avoided during special physiological periods.

Reason 1

It is not easy to fill teeth during women's menstrual period. This is mainly because of the individual tooth cavities. Some of the cavities may have penetrated deep into the pulp. At this time, filling the tooth may irritate the pulp. The immunity is poor during menstruation. For safety reasons, it is recommended to avoid filling the tooth during menstruation.

Reason 2

Moreover, if you go to the hospital for treatment for a dental disease, you may sometimes experience toothache again. Due to the need for treatment, the dental pulp is deactivated (commonly known as killing the nerves). Toothache may occur on the same day or the next day after the deactivation medicine is taken due to the effect of the medicine. Although the pain will not be severe and will not last for a long time, toothache is also very unfavorable for women during menstruation.

Reason 3

Because of the stimulation of the pulp by disinfectants during the process of preparing the cavity for the filling or due to the stimulation of the pulp by disinfectants, short-term hot or cold stimulation pain may occur. Such situations do not require special treatment and generally recover on their own after 1 to 2 days. The caries cavity is deep and the padding material used is too thin to block the hot and cold stimulation conducted by the silver-mercury alloy, resulting in symptoms of hot and cold stimulation pain. This requires thickening the base material before filling.

Reason 4

The reason for the recent irritation pain or spontaneous pain after a tooth filling may be that certain chemical substances in the filling material stimulate the pulp or apical tissue; it may also be caused by incomplete pulp devitalization. In fact, the long-term cause of pain is often secondary caries complicated by pulpitis. Pulp soothing or other endodontic treatment should be performed depending on the specific situation. If you have experienced bite pain recently, it is probably because the filling material is too high, causing premature contact when biting. After a few days of adjustment, you will return to normal.

Precautions

When having a tooth filled, you should stay calm, don't be too nervous or afraid, and try to relax. After the teeth are repaired, try to eat more foods high in iron and calcium, avoid sour and spicy foods, do not drink cold water or raw or cold fruits, and take anti-inflammatory drugs as prescribed by the doctor. Do not ignore it.
