What are the side effects of being fat and having a baby?

If you are obese, it will have some negative effects on fertility and cause some problems during the birth process. Severe cases may even lead to dystocia, which is quite critical. Therefore, after learning that you are pregnant, you should try to control your weight as much as possible to avoid these problems. After all, being too obese will have a very bad effect on the fetus in your belly.

1. Normal-sized fetuses are delivered through the mother's pelvis, but because the fetal head of a giant baby is large and hard, it often gets "stranded" at the entrance of the pelvis. In addition, if the fetus is too fat or has too much fat on the shoulders, and dystocia occurs at the same time, the delivery will be more difficult and a cesarean section will often be required. If not handled properly, it may endanger the mother's health and life.

2. Uterine prolapse is easy to occur due to excessive stretching or tearing of the vagina during delivery;

3. Prolonged delivery period causes postpartum hemorrhage, endangering the life of the mother.

4. Wound infection, abdominal adhesion, endometriosis and other diseases caused after cesarean section may directly or indirectly lead to the death of the mother and newborn.

5. During childbirth, giant babies are usually stuck in the pelvis due to their overweight and broad shoulders. The forced pulling process can easily cause bone damage. Sometimes, due to prolonged time, they may suffocate or even die.

6. Macrosomia after cesarean section are prone to hypoglycemia, polycythemia, hyperbilirubinemia and other diseases. Medical research has shown that newborns born by cesarean section are not squeezed through the birth canal, so they are not easily adapted to sudden changes in the external environment and cannot expel respiratory fluids in time. Their lung complications are significantly higher than those of those born through natural delivery. It has also been observed that the proportion of heart malformations in macrosomia is higher than that in normal-weight babies, and they are more likely to suffer from obesity when they grow up, making them susceptible to various diseases such as diabetes and hypertension.

There are many reasons for the occurrence of giant babies. Generally speaking, it is mainly related to genetic factors. For example, if the father or mother is tall, overweight or strong, the possibility of giving birth to a giant baby is greater; secondly, it is related to overnutrition and less activity during pregnancy. Many pregnant women think that the more they eat, the better for the child. During pregnancy, they only eat big fish and meat and expensive health care products, which leads to their own serious overweight and the weight of the fetus also increases sharply. In addition, macrosomia is also common in multiparous women, women with post-term pregnancy and pregnant women with diabetes. According to the analysis of the conditions of pregnant women who visited the hospital, most cases of macrosomia are caused by excessive nutritional intake of pregnant women. Therefore, Director Zhao reminds pregnant women:

Pregnant women should participate in moderate activities and avoid sitting or lying at home all day. At the same time, supplement nutrition appropriately, reduce the intake of high-calorie, high-fat, and high-sugar foods, and maintain a uniform growth rate of your own weight and the weight of the fetus. The fetus generally grows an average of 10 grams per week before 16 weeks of pregnancy, 85 grams per week from 17 to 27 weeks, 200 grams per week between 28 and 38 weeks, and 70 grams per week after 38 weeks. The weight gain during the entire pregnancy should not exceed 12.5 kg. Against this standard, pay close attention to the growth and development of the fetus. If you find that the fetus is growing too fast, you should go to the hospital as soon as possible for a glucose tolerance test and nutritional consultation, adjust your diet reasonably, and avoid the occurrence of hidden diabetes. At the same time, a cardiac ultrasound examination is performed on the fetus to determine whether there are any congenital heart malformations so as to enable early intervention.
