Can I take antiparasitic drugs while breastfeeding?

You may feel stomach pain during breastfeeding, which is most likely due to roundworms in the stomach. Once there are roundworms in the stomach, we may have poor appetite and headaches. Generally, we can treat this situation with medication, but all drugs will have some side effects, and serious ones may affect your body, especially at such a critical time as breastfeeding. So, can we take anthelmintics during breastfeeding?

1. Symptoms after taking anti-worm medicine

1. After taking anti-roundworm medicine, you may experience symptoms such as nausea, fever, headache, dry mouth, and fatigue. These symptoms generally disappear on their own after stopping the medication. If the adverse reactions do not disappear after stopping the medication, you need to seek medical attention immediately.

2. After taking anti-ascaris medicine, ascaris may appear in the stool, or you may vomit ascaris from your mouth. Regular use or overdose of anthelmintics can cause adverse reactions such as dizziness, headache, vomiting, and liver damage. Therefore, children should not take anthelmintics frequently, and children with liver and kidney dysfunction, weak spleen and stomach, and acute fever should use them with caution or not at all. Especially for children under two years old, their livers are not fully developed, and most anthelmintics contain ingredients that affect liver function. Taking them will cause liver damage to children, leading to elevated transaminase and anorexia. The best way to prevent and treat intestinal parasitic diseases in children under two years old is to pay attention to hygiene and cut off the source of contact with insect eggs.

Seven symptoms of ascariasis

1. Frequent unexplained diarrhea, constipation or abdominal pain (mostly pain around the navel).

2. Poor appetite, not wanting to eat but often wanting to eat sweet snacks, or having a good appetite but losing weight

3. Sometimes headaches, excitement, poor spirits, lack of concentration, and slow reactions.

4. Often drooling or grinding teeth when sleeping at night.

5. Quick temper.

6. There are generally five types of "worm spots" that appear on children:

(1) Red spots appear on the tongue, which are characterized by neat, round edges that often protrude from the tongue. The location and number of red spots are irregular.

(2) Granules appear on the lower lip mucosa, mostly grayish-white needle-sized papules of varying numbers.

(3) Blue spots appear on the sclera, which are triangular, circular or crescent-shaped.

(4) White spots appear on the face, which are mostly round, with neat edges and pale white in the middle.

(5) "White clouds" appear on the nails. These worm spots can appear alone or in combination.

7. Like to pick nose.
