What does Rh positive blood mean for pregnant women?

What does Rh positive blood mean for pregnant women?

HR positive blood accounts for the majority of the entire Rh blood type system and is not as rare as Rh negative blood, which is also called panda blood. For pregnant women, they should have a physical examination before pregnancy or before getting married. It is very important to have a blood test. If the blood is Rh positive, the first baby will generally not have neonatal hemolytic disease.

Why should pregnant women check RH blood type

1. Everyone knows that there will be a premarital physical examination before getting married, one of the items is a blood test. Everyone knows that blood tests are important, but you may not know why. In the RH blood type system, it is divided into positive and negative. Generally, checking the RH blood type is to check whether the pregnant woman has RH negative blood type. So why do pregnant women need to check their RH blood type?

2. When an Rh-negative mother conceives an Rh-positive fetus, the fetus's red blood cells enter the mother's body through the placenta, stimulating the mother to produce anti-Rh antibodies, which then enter the fetus' body through the placenta. Since the first pregnancy produces very little anti-Rh antibodies, neonatal hemolytic disease rarely occurs.

3. If the second pregnancy is with an Rh-positive fetus, the production of anti-Rh antibodies will increase, which can cause neonatal hemolytic disease. If an Rh-negative pregnant woman has a history of Rh-positive blood transfusion, or has a history of miscarriage of the first pregnancy due to Rh blood type incompatibility, fetal hemolytic disease may occur even in the first pregnancy.

There are generally no natural antibodies to the R4 and h blood group systems, so Rh blood type incompatibility will not be discovered during the first blood transfusion. However, after an Rh-negative blood recipient receives Rh-positive blood, he or she may produce immune anti-Rh antibodies. If he or she receives Rh-positive blood again, a hemolytic transfusion reaction may occur.

Editor's Tip: In order to prevent the occurrence of neonatal hemolytic disease, it is necessary for pregnant women to check their RH blood type.

Rh blood type positive in pregnant women

1. If the pregnant woman's blood type is Rh positive, there is no need to worry. This means that your blood, like most people, contains the Rh factor. Babies born to mothers with Rh positive blood will not develop hemolytic disease of the newborn.

2. On the contrary, if the pregnant woman's blood type is Rh-negative and the baby is Rh-positive, during the first pregnancy, the mother's body will be sensitized by the fetal antigens and produce antibodies, but the antibody titer is low and hemolysis is generally not prone to occur; if the second pregnancy is still an Rh-positive fetus, the antibodies will enter the fetus through the placenta and can cause neonatal hemolytic disease. If an Rh-negative mother has received blood from an Rh-positive person before pregnancy, it may cause hemolytic disease of the newborn in the first child born to an Rh-positive fetus.

3. Experts remind that pregnant women, as a special group, are prone to produce immune antibodies due to blood transfusion or pregnancy. Irregular antibody screening tests should be conducted to detect irregular antibodies with clinical significance, pay attention to them, choose matching blood products for transfusion, ensure the safety of blood transfusion, and evaluate and predict the occurrence of neonatal hemolytic disease as early as possible, take measures for early prevention, and effectively alleviate symptoms.
