A lump on your cervix? Let’s take a look at these impacts

A lump in the cervix is a common disease among women. It is what is medically called a cervical cyst. Mild cases will not cause special harm, but severe cases can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease, adnexitis, infertility, and even chronic cervicitis. Patients may have a tendency to become malignant. Therefore, if a lump is found during examination, special attention should be paid and active treatment should be sought.

1. What is cervical cyst?

(1) Cervical cysts are also called cervical glandular cysts. The cysts can be single or multiple. They are generally small and scattered, protruding from the surface of the cervix. They are smooth and bluish-white in color. If secondary infection occurs, they may appear as small yellow cysts.

(2) Cervical cysts are a common phenomenon in the course of chronic cervicitis. Most cases may no longer change and have no effect on the body, but a few may become infected again and worsen. Even healthy women can develop cervical cysts that do not require treatment.

(3) For women who are diagnosed with this condition, the key is to determine whether treatment is needed based on the presence or absence of symptoms and inflammation. In most cases, regular check-ups are all that is needed and there is no need to worry too much.

2. What are the dangers of cervical cysts?

(1) If the patient with cervical cysts does not have increased vaginal discharge or odor caused by inflammation, there is no special harm and no special treatment is required. Regular check-ups are sufficient.

(2) If the patient with cervical cyst has inflammation, the following effects may occur:

1) The spread of inflammation can cause pelvic inflammatory disease, adnexitis, endometritis, etc.;

2) Severe inflammation can lead to infertility, and scarring at the cervix can affect natural childbirth;

3) Under long-term inflammatory stimulation, a very small number of patients with chronic cervicitis have a tendency to malignant transformation.

3. Introduction to the symptoms and characteristics of cervical cysts

1. The signs of cervical cysts are bulging at the fundus or posterior wall of the uterus, with a local cystic sensation. It can be divided into three types: subserosal, intramural and submucosal. If it is a pedunculated submucosal cyst, it can sometimes protrude outside the cervical os. Pathological examination of cervical cysts shows that the cyst wall originating from the mesonephric duct is mostly composed of columnar or stratified squamous epithelium. The cyst wall originating from the paramesonephric duct is mostly composed of ciliated columnar epithelium.

2. Symptoms Congenital uterine cysts generally have no obvious subjective symptoms, and sometimes a lump can be felt in the lower abdomen.

3. The age of onset of cervical cysts is between 25 and 52 years old, with an average age of 36 years old.

4. Excessive secretions, often manifested as increased vaginal discharge, with yellow or light yellow color. In addition, there are differences in properties, some have thick vaginal discharge, and some have purulent vaginal discharge.

5. Some cervical cysts can grow very large, protruding from the surface of the cervix and even reaching the vaginal opening. The root is connected to the cervix by a pedicle and is often accompanied by cervical hypertrophy. During the examination, you can see multiple bluish-white vesicles (not purple) of varying sizes protruding from the surface of the cervix. They contain mucus, some as big as rice grains and some as big as corn kernels.
