What does a smooth cervix mean?

What does a smooth cervix mean?

Cervical diseases are very troublesome for women. Not only will they harm their own health, but they will also be detrimental to the growth of their children in the future. Therefore, it is very important to understand the knowledge related to the cervix. A smooth cervix means that there is no inflammation in the female cervix, which is a normal condition, but you should not take it lightly and should undergo regular gynecological examinations.

1. What is a smooth cervix?

A smooth cervix is normal, which generally means that the cervix is not inflamed or eroded. If there is cervicitis or cervical erosion, the cervix will not be smooth.

2. Don’t be careless if your cervix is smooth

Is it necessary to perform a cervical smear test if the cervix is not eroded and has a smooth surface? To explain this problem, we must first understand the growth of cervical cancer. Cervical squamous cell carcinoma can be divided into four types: exophytic, endophytic, ulcerative and endocervical due to the different locations and growth patterns of the cancer lesions. The exophytic type refers to the cancer focus growing outward. During clinical gynecological examination, the lesion can be seen as a "cauliflower"-shaped (also called "nipple"-shaped) protrusion. The endogenous type refers to the cancer lesions growing and infiltrating into the deep tissues of the cervix like "tree roots". The surface of the cervix is smooth or only slightly eroded because it is not invaded by the tumor.

Regardless of the exogenous or endogenous type, as the cancer continues to develop, the cancerous tissue necrotizes and falls off, eventually forming a sunken ulcer shaped like a "crater", which is called the ulcerative type. As the name suggests, the cervical canal type is characterized by cancer occurring within the external os of the cervix and hidden in the cervical canal. The cancer cells mainly invade the blood supply layer and lymphatic system of the cervix. During clinical examination, the surface of the cervix is not obviously invaded, so it is also relatively smooth or slightly eroded. In addition, regardless of the type, in the precancerous stage or early stage of cancer, there is usually no sign of cancer on the surface of the cervix. During clinical examination, the surface of the cervix may appear eroded or smooth. To sum up, whether the external os of the cervix is smooth or eroded has no necessary connection with whether or not one will develop cervical cancer. It is unscientific to decide whether or not to undergo cervical cancer prevention examination based on whether the cervix is smooth or not. Therefore, married women, regardless of whether the external os of the cervix is smooth or eroded, should all undergo regular cancer prevention screening. Only in this way can the disease be diagnosed and treated early.
