What are the special medicines for cough in pregnant women?

Cold and cough are common symptoms in pregnant women. At this time, you must not take medicine privately to avoid adverse effects on the health of the fetus, especially within three months of pregnancy. Improper use of medicine may even cause fetal malformations and easily cause miscarriage. When you have a cold and cough, you can drink some pear and tremella soup, lotus seed and lily soup, etc., which can have a good effect of relieving cough and reducing phlegm.

1. Pear and Tremella Soup

1 snow pear, 30 grams of water-soaked white fungus, 5 grams of Fritillaria, and appropriate amount of white sugar. Remove the roots and impurities from the soaked white fungus, wash it, and tear it into small pieces; peel and seed the pear, and cut it into several pieces. Put white fungus slices, snow pear pieces, Fritillaria and sugar in a stewing dish and steam for 30-40 minutes. Take out and serve.

2. Lotus seed and lily soup

15 grams of lotus seeds, 15 grams of dried lily, 1 egg, and appropriate amount of white sugar. Remove the core of the lotus seeds and place them in a casserole with lilies. Add appropriate amount of water and simmer until the lotus seeds are tender. Then add eggs and sugar. The eggs can be eaten after they are cooked.

What medicine can't pregnant women take for cough

1. Anti-cold medicine

Most of these are compound preparations containing multiple ingredients. Common ones include Quick-acting Cold Capsules, Ganmaotong, Contac, Baijiahei, Kangbid, Kegankang, Kuai Ke, etc. Most of these medicines contain histamines and should not be taken during pregnancy.

Especially before 4 weeks of pregnancy, cold medicines are mainly symptomatic drugs that only treat the symptoms and not the root cause. They are not safe for pregnant women, so the editor recommends that pregnant women should not use anti-cold medicines.

2. Antiviral drugs

All of them have adverse effects on the fetus and should not be used by pregnant women. If they must be used, they should be used under the guidance of a doctor.

3. Antipyretics

A cold accompanied by high fever usually indicates a serious illness and you should see a doctor promptly. Indomethacin is a fever-reducing drug that is contraindicated for pregnant women, and aspirin should not be used after 32 weeks of pregnancy.

4. Antibiotics

If pregnant women have a cold but there is no clear evidence of bacterial infection, such as tonsillitis, high blood pressure, coughing up yellow sputum, runny nose, etc., antibiotics are not needed.

Because antibiotics can pass through the placenta and enter the fetus, there is a 20%-40% chance of causing harm to the fetus. Safe antibiotics should be chosen under the guidance of a doctor.
