Therefore, breast milk is very important, but many mothers cannot judge whether their milk is enough to feed their babies. Let’s take a look at some of the manifestations of insufficient milk!

Signs of insufficient milk supply in new mothers

1. Although milk is discharged from the breast, no swallowing sound can be heard from the baby.

2. The mother does not feel breast swelling before breastfeeding, and there is no obvious change in the breasts before and after feeding.

3. The new mother cannot express milk from her breasts 5 days after giving birth; she experiences nipple pain and nipple congestion, and her nipples do not become soft after breastfeeding.

Signs of insufficient milk supply in babies

1. Three days after birth, the baby urinates less than 6 times in 24 hours, and the stool is still black, green or brown. The baby has less than 3-4 bowel movements per day within 4 days to 1 month.

2. The number of feedings per 24 hours is less than 8, or the number of feedings is not small but the baby always sucks desperately and continuously, sucking each breast for more than 30 minutes;

3. The baby continues to cry after feeding, or starts crying again soon after, and turns his head back and forth looking for the nipple.

4. Children sleep for a short time after feeding, often less than 1 hour.

5. The baby's daily weight gain is less than 15 to 30 grams in the first 5 days after birth, and the weight has not returned to the birth level 10 days after birth.

6. The baby takes a long time to feed and sucks the nipple hard, but no continuous swallowing sound can be heard. Sometimes the baby suddenly lets go of the nipple and cries incessantly.
