Is yellow lochia normal after childbirth?

Normal lochia is blood red, and some friends may have white lochia, which is a relatively normal appearance. However, if yellow lochia appears, you should pay attention, because there may be something wrong with the body that causes the lochia to be abnormal. It is recommended that these friends go to a regular hospital for diagnosis to see what the problem is.

Red lochia

In the first week after delivery, the amount of lochia is large and bright red. It contains a large amount of blood, small blood clots and necrotic decidual tissue, which is called red lochia. Bloody lochia lasts for three to four days, the amount of uterine bleeding gradually decreases, the serous fluid increases, and it turns into serous lochia.

Lochia serousa

After one week to half a month, the amount of blood in the lochia decreases, and there are more necrotic decidua, cervical mucus, vaginal secretions and bacteria, which makes the lochia turn into light red serous fluid. The lochia at this time is called serous lochia. Serous lochia lasts for about ten days, the serous fluid gradually decreases, the white blood cells increase, and the lochia turns into white lochia.

White lochia

After half a month to three weeks, the lochia no longer contains blood, but contains a large number of white blood cells, degenerated decidua, epidermal cells and bacteria, making the lochia viscous and white in color, so it is called white lochia. The white lochia lasted for three weeks without any bleeding.

Cause

1. Residual tissue: It may be due to uterine malformation, uterine fibroids, etc., or it may be due to the unskilled operation operator, resulting in incomplete removal of pregnancy tissue, causing some tissue to remain in the uterine cavity. At this time, in addition to the unclean lochia, the amount of bleeding varies, with blood clots inside, and is accompanied by intermittent abdominal pain.

2. Uterine cavity infection: It may be caused by taking a tub bath after delivery, unclean sanitary napkins, or having sexual intercourse before a full month after delivery, or by the operator's failure to strictly disinfect the operation. At this time, the lochia has a foul odor, there is tenderness in the abdomen, and it is accompanied by fever. A blood test shows an increase in the total white blood cell count.

3. Weak uterine contractions: This may be due to failure to get a good rest after delivery, or due to poor health or prolonged delivery, which consumes Qi and blood, leading to weak uterine contractions and continuous lochia.
