Pregnancy is a process that most women will go through. During pregnancy, the food consumed by pregnant women will be transmitted to the baby's body through the umbilical cord. Therefore, the physical health of pregnant women is closely related to the growth and development of the fetus. Periodontitis is a type of oral inflammation. Once you suffer from periodontitis, it will affect the patient's eating function and digestive system. Therefore, many women are worried. Can they get pregnant if they suffer from periodontitis? Periodontitis is a chronic infectious disease that affects the four types of periodontal supporting tissues, often causing inflammatory destruction of the periodontal supporting tissues. It does not have much impact on pregnancy. Patients can use mouthwash or take oral anti-inflammatory drugs, but generally they need to stop taking the drugs for three months before they can conceive again. Periodontitis is a common oral disease, with an incidence rate of over 50% among adults in my country. After women become pregnant, they are prone to periodontitis due to endocrine reasons. If they suffer from periodontitis before pregnancy, it can easily make the condition worse. Modern medical research has shown that in pregnant women with periodontitis, the large number of bacteria in their periodontal pockets can produce sufficient amounts of endotoxins, which will activate lymphocytes in the body and produce a large number of inflammatory factors. Numerous periodontal pathogens, endotoxins and inflammatory factors can enter the blood circulation, spread throughout the body, and may enter the placenta through the bloodstream, causing damage to the fetal brain and multiple organ tissues, affecting fetal growth and development and causing premature birth. Animal experiments have found that when periodontal pathogens are inoculated into pregnant guinea pigs, local infection is caused and the growth and development of the guinea pigs are significantly inhibited. Scientists have also isolated high levels of periodontal pathogens from the lower reproductive tract and amniotic fluid of some premature pregnant women, confirming the relationship between periodontitis and premature birth. In addition, it was found that the incidence of low-weight premature babies born to pregnant women with severe periodontitis was 7.9 times that of pregnant women with healthy periodontal tissues. This shows that periodontitis should not be taken lightly. In order to give birth to a baby who is healthy both physically and mentally, every woman of childbearing age should pay attention to periodontal health and take good care of oral health during pregnancy. For example, you should master the correct method of brushing your teeth and insist on brushing your teeth after meals to remove food debris between teeth and prevent the formation of dental plaque; go to the hospital's dental department for regular check-ups, and it is best to ask a doctor to perform cleaning for you; once periodontal disease is discovered, it should be completely eradicated to eliminate hidden dangers. |
