Because the placenta occupies half of the uterine wall during mid-pregnancy, there is a greater chance of monitoring or covering the internal cervical os, and half of the placentas will be located lower. After late pregnancy, the lower segment of the uterus forms and expands upward to become part of the uterine cavity, and most of the placenta moves upward to become a normal placenta. Therefore, it is not appropriate to diagnose placenta previa during mid-pregnancy.
