Consequences of cervical hypertrophy, common complications

Many women have cervical hypertrophy, which is a common gynecological inflammation. Cervical hypertrophy can cause an increase in leucorrhea and, in severe cases, bleeding during sexual intercourse, which affects normal life. Some patients also experience infertility and need timely treatment.

1. Increased vaginal discharge: The typical symptom of patients with cervical hypertrophy is increased vaginal discharge. In acute cervicitis, the leucorrhea is purulent, accompanied by pain in the lower abdomen and lumbosacral area, or bladder irritation symptoms such as frequent urination, urgency, and pain when urinating. The leucorrhea of chronic cervicitis is milky white mucus or light yellow pus.

2. Cervical congestion and edema: Acute inflammation may cause cervical congestion, edema or erosion, with purulent secretions discharged from the cervical canal, and pain may occur when the cervix is touched. Chronic cervicitis may show varying degrees of erosion, hypertrophy, polyps, glandular cysts, and ectropion of the cervix, or purulent secretions at the cervical opening and a hard cervix upon palpation. If it is cervical erosion or polyp, there may be contact bleeding.

3. Bleeding during sexual intercourse: In case of severe cervical erosion or cervical polyps, bleeding after sexual intercourse may occur in the form of bloody leucorrhea. In mild cases, there may be no systemic symptoms. When the inflammation spreads along the uterosacral ligament to the pelvic cavity, there may be pain in the lumbar region, a feeling of heaviness in the lower abdomen, and dysmenorrhea, which worsens during bowel movements and sexual intercourse.

4. Infertility: Thick and purulent leucorrhea is not conducive to the passage of sperm and can also cause infertility.

5. Affect normal life. For severe patients, cervical hypertrophy will cause symptoms such as bloody leucorrhea and bleeding during sexual intercourse. These symptoms not only affect women's mental health, but also endanger women's normal life to a certain extent. Therefore, it is recommended that women must go to the hospital for treatment in time when they suffer from cervical hypertrophy.

6. Induce cervical cancer. Because some women are accustomed to delaying treatment after they become ill, if cervical hypertrophy is not treated for a long time, the condition will worsen and induce cervical cancer.
