What items should be checked during amniocentesis? You must know

Prenatal examinations are very important for pregnant women, because only in this way can they detect whether their baby is healthy. Amniocentesis is generally suitable for older mothers. Its main purpose is to detect whether the baby has congenital diseases and chromosomal mutations and other diseases. But what items does amniocentesis check? People need to know.

1. Determine whether the baby is deformed

Among the amniocentesis tests, determining whether the fetus is deformed is the most diagnostically significant one. The formation of fetal malformations may be caused by genetic factors (internal problems) or medication during pregnancy (external problems).

2. Detect whether the baby is in distress

Amniocentesis can promptly detect whether the fetus is in distress in the uterine cavity. Once discovered, the cause can be eliminated immediately, or necessary measures can be taken decisively, such as caesarean section, and the fetus can mostly be saved. If it should be discovered but is not, and the rescue time is delayed, the phenomenon of fetal death in the womb will inevitably be unavoidable.

3. Check the baby's maturity

When the due date cannot be determined, amniotic fluid can be drawn at an appropriate time for internal analysis to determine the maturity of the fetus.

4. Determination of baby's gender

During the long ten months of pregnancy, what expectant parents are most interested in is the prediction of whether the baby will be a boy or a girl. This is certainly driven by curiosity, but in fact it seems to be necessary. The chromosomes in the amniotic fluid can determine the sex of the fetus, and it can also be confirmed by measuring the endocrines contained in the amniotic fluid. This method is simple to operate and has high accuracy.

Generally speaking, amniocentesis is done around 6 months of pregnancy. It cannot be done too early or too late. If it is done too early, it is easy to result in insufficient amniotic fluid. If it is done too late, it is not that it cannot be done, but it will be too late to discover that there is a problem with your child at that time.
