Can I do B-ultrasound during my menstrual period? What should I pay attention to when doing B-ultrasound?

B-ultrasound is one of the regular items in routine physical examinations in major hospitals. There are many types of B-ultrasounds, and some special ones have clear precautions before doing them. For example, B-ultrasound of the digestive tract requires fasting, and B-ultrasound of gynecology also has requirements for whether the girl is in her menstrual period. Before doing an ultrasound, you must understand these specific requirements to ensure that the ultrasound examination results are accurate.

1. Can I do B-ultrasound during my menstrual period?

Gynecological ultrasound is divided into two types: abdominal color ultrasound and vaginal color ultrasound, but both require avoiding the menstrual period. Because of the influence of menstruation, blood will accumulate in the uterine cavity, affecting the clarity of the image and making it difficult to see the endometrium. During the menstrual period, the size of uterine fibroids and ovarian cysts will also be affected, which is not the real situation. If you just want to check the uterine appendages, it is usually done within 3-7 days after the menstruation ends; if you want to check the follicles, it is better to check them a few days before ovulation, usually on the 10th to 13th day of menstruation. Of course, it depends on individual differences and you need to consult a gynecologist specifically. Patients with miscarriage need to have an ultrasound reexamination to determine whether there is any residue in the uterus and the recovery of the endometrium. The time is after the first menstrual period after abortion.

2. Precautions for cardiac B-ultrasound examination

You need to wear loose clothes and rest for a while before the examination. Then lie flat on the examination bed and unbutton your shirt to make it easier for the doctor to explore your chest with a probe.

III. Precautions for B-ultrasound examination of the digestive system

Examination of liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, and both kidneys.

①. When doing a gallbladder examination, first, you need to fast for 12 hours in advance and abstain from fatty foods for 24 hours; second, you need to stop taking medications that affect bile emptying; third, for people with abdominal distension, you can take anti-bloating drugs or enema before the examination, because this can increase the display rate of the bile duct and gallbladder.

②. Do not drink dairy products, soy products, sugars and other easily fermented foods three days before the liver, gallbladder and pancreas examination; eat a light diet one day before the examination; and fast on the day of the examination.

③. To avoid gastrointestinal bloating affecting the examination, you need to refrain from eating any food 8-12 hours before the pancreatic examination.

④. Do not eat or drink after dinner the day before the gastrointestinal examination. Do not take barium meal or gastroscopy three days before the examination.

IV. Precautions for B-ultrasound examination of gynecology and urinary system

When doing B-ultrasound examination of the urinary system, uterine appendages or early pregnancy, you need to hold your urine in advance to ensure that the bladder is full. You can drink about 1000 ml of water within 2 hours before the examination.
