What should I do if my menstrual flow is light after curettage?

Curettage is a common method to terminate pregnancy, but it can easily cause harm to a woman's body. In particular, it can cause a thin endometrium and ultimately less menstruation. So what should we do?

Women who have undergone curettage must pay attention to postoperative rest and care. With proper general care, irregular menstruation will gradually disappear.

What to do if the menstrual volume is small after curettage

Normal women's menstruation lasts for 2-7 days, with a menstrual volume of 50-80 ml. If the duration is less than 2 days and the menstrual volume is less than 30 ml, it is usually considered as oligomenorrhea. There are many reasons for scanty menstruation, such as endocrine disorders, gynecological inflammation, changes in mental environment, anemia, etc. In addition, it may be due to the endometrium itself, such as endometrial tuberculosis causing endometrial lesions or artificial abortion or curettage causing thin endometrium. Long-term scanty menstruation may cause amenorrhea or infertility. It is recommended that pregnant mothers go to the hospital for examination in time, identify the cause and actively receive symptomatic treatment to avoid affecting their health.

After the curettage, please pay attention to the following matters:

1. After the abortion, you need to rest in the hospital for half an hour to one hour. You can leave the hospital only if you do not feel any special discomfort.

2. Due to the pain stimulation during the operation, you may sweat a lot. Therefore, after the operation, you should pay attention to keeping warm, avoid wind and cold, prevent external infection, and avoid excessive use of air conditioning in midsummer.

3. Due to the trauma left on the endometrium after curettage, there will be vaginal bleeding within two weeks after the operation. Generally, the amount of blood is less than or similar to the menstrual amount, which is normal. If the bleeding has not stopped for more than two weeks or the amount of blood exceeds the menstrual volume, please go to the hospital immediately.

4. Abdominal pain occurs due to uterine contraction after the operation, which usually subsides in about half an hour to an hour. If you experience severe abdominal pain, vaginal bleeding with large blood clots, and high fever after a few hours or days, please go to the hospital immediately.

5. Keep the perineum clean and dry, change sanitary napkins frequently, and choose sanitary napkins and paper marked with the words "Xiao" or "Zhun". Wash the vulva with clean water every night and dry it with a clean and dry towel. Never use your hands to clean your vagina, and do not use any medicated lotions to rinse your vagina.
