How to retrieve eggs for IVF, four methods to tell you

Nowadays, medicine has developed greatly and in vitro fertilization has become a very mature technology. When doing in vitro fertilization, there is a step called egg retrieval, which usually starts with an ovulation-stimulating injection, and then the embryo is taken out of the body.

1. Mature egg: There is a small cell in the perivitelline space under the zona pellucida, called the first polar body. The release of the first polar body is an indicator of egg maturity.

2. Immature eggs: Immature eggs cannot be used for fertilization and must wait until they are fully mature before they can be used for fertilization. In this case, immature eggs can be cultured using a special culture medium to simulate the follicle microenvironment in the body. After 36 to 48 hours of in vitro culture, they mature and are then fertilized in vitro. After they develop into embryos, they are implanted into the mother's uterine cavity.

3. Overmature eggs : After the eggs mature, they must be fertilized. If they are not fertilized within a certain period of time, they will begin to age and eventually die. Although overmature eggs can be fertilized, the quality of the embryos produced by them will be poor and the success rate after IVF transplantation will be low.

4. Abnormal eggs: The chromosomes are abnormal and cannot be used for fertilization. So a reminder: egg quality is very important. It is necessary to eat more high-protein foods, ensure adequate sleep, and keep a happy mood before egg retrieval for IVF.
