Ovarian tumors can be classified in many ways, so we also need to understand the treatment through these classifications, scientifically solve these diseases and reduce the harm they cause. Common manifestations include epithelial tumors, germ cell tumors and secondary tumors. Ovarian cysts rank third among gynecological tumors. Benign ovarian tumors mostly occur in people aged 20-44, while malignant ovarian tumors occur in people aged 40-50. Young girls can also develop ovarian tumors, which are often malignant. Tumors in late menopause are also mostly malignant. There are many types of ovarian tumors. In 1973, the World Health Organization (WHO) developed an international unified classification method for ovarian tumors according to their tissue developmental origin, dividing tumors into nine categories, namely: 1. Common "epithelial" tumors; 2. Sex cord-stromal tumors; 3. Lipid (lipid-like) tumors; 4. Germ cell tumors; 5. Gonadoblastoma; 6. Non-ovarian specific soft tissue tumors; 7. Unclassified tumors; 8. Secondary (metastatic) tumors; 9. Tumor-like lesions. The most common ones are: 1. Epithelial tumors The most common type, accounting for 50-70% of ovarian tumors, among which serous tumors are the most common, followed by mucinous tumors. Based on their histological and cytological characteristics, they can be classified as benign, borderline (low malignant potential tumor) and malignant. Epithelial adenomas account for 90% of ovarian malignancies. (B) Germ cell tumors. Originating from embryonic germ cells, they account for about 25% of ovarian tumors. Among germ cell tumors, benign ones include mature cystic teratoma (dermoid cyst), and malignant ones include endodermal cystoma, immature teratoma and dysgerminoma. (iii) Sex cord-stromal tumors. It accounts for 6% of ovarian tumors, mainly granulosa cell tumor, theca cell tumor and fibroma. (IV) Secondary (metastatic) tumors account for about 1-9% of all cases. The most common type is metastatic cancer from the gastrointestinal tract. Signet ring cells can be seen under the microscope, also known as Krukenberg tumors. |
