What should I do if I have severe constipation during breastfeeding?

Constipation during breastfeeding is relatively common. After all, you cannot do any exercise casually after giving birth. However, since this is constipation, you cannot take any medicine to relieve it due to the need to breastfeed. You can only choose other methods. So what should you do?

Constipation is most likely to occur during the lactation period, especially 2 to 5 days after delivery. First, because of the increased abdominal pressure during pregnancy, hemorrhoids are easily formed, making defecation difficult. Secondly, due to the large amount of blood loss after delivery, yin blood deficiency, blood deficiency and qi deficiency, the inability to push and cause constipation. Thirdly, postpartum women often stay in bed to rest and have less activity, which can also easily lead to severe constipation. So what should you do if you have severe constipation during breastfeeding?

If you have severe constipation during breastfeeding, we recommend that you take the following measures:

1. Good daily living habits can improve constipation. First of all, you should determine a time for defecation that suits you (preferably in the morning). No matter whether you have the urge to defecate or not, or whether you can defecate or not, you should go to the toilet on time. As long as you persist for a long time, you will form a conditioned reflex of regular defecation.

2. Eat more fiber foods and water. Foods rich in fiber can promote the secretion of digestive juices, promote intestinal peristalsis, and soften stools.

3. Drink a glass of boiled water on an empty stomach every morning, and replenish the body with water during the day to prevent the body from being unable to form stool due to lack of water.

4. If conditions permit, you can drink more honey water and eat more bananas, which can effectively relieve constipation.

5. Exercise moderately. Appropriate exercise can enhance gastrointestinal motility and prevent food from accumulating in the body for too long.
