How to use force during childbirth to make your delivery smoother

It is very helpful for women to learn some correct delivery methods during pregnancy. Many women cannot give birth smoothly because they don’t know how to push. The correct way to push during childbirth has three stages. Mastering the methods of pushing in these stages can make childbirth easy.

1. Stage 1: Breathe evenly, without force 1 The first stage is also called the opening stage, which starts with the regular contraction of the uterus and ends with the full opening of the uterine opening. First-time mothers often experience 12-14 hours of labor pains. During this stage, the frequency of uterine contractions is lower and the force of contractions is weaker. Its main function is to dilate the cervix. Correct way to use force: At this stage, you should pay attention to consciously practicing deep abdominal breathing. During contractions, take a deep breath, breathe in deeply and slowly, and exhale slowly. During the intervals between contractions, it is best to close your eyes and rest to conserve your energy.

2. The second stage: Use all your strength and hold your breath. The second stage is from the full dilation of the cervix to the delivery of the fetus. During this stage, the uterus contracts quickly and forcefully, almost once every one or two minutes, and each contraction lasts about 50 seconds. Correct way to use force: After the cervix is fully dilated, when uterine contractions begin, the expectant mother should bend and spread her legs, grab the handles with both hands, and push down with force as if she were defecating. The longer the time, the better, in order to increase abdominal pressure and promote the delivery of the fetus. During the intervals between contractions, relax and rest fully, and then push again during the next contraction. After the fetal head is exposed and the uterine contractions are strong, the mother should not push down again. At the same time, she should open her mouth and exhale to relieve the excessive abdominal pressure and avoid serious perineal laceration. During the intervals between contractions, the mother holds her breath and pushes downward to allow the fetal head to be delivered slowly.

3. The third stage: Try your best again. This stage is also called the placental delivery period. After the fetus is delivered, the uterine contractions will stop briefly, about 10 minutes apart, and then uterine contractions will occur again to expel the placenta. This process takes about 5-15 minutes and usually does not exceed 30 minutes. Correct way to push: At this time, you can also use the breath-holding method of the second stage and use all your strength to speed up the delivery of the placenta and reduce bleeding.

4. Wrong way of pushing: Some pregnant mothers may think that they should start pushing as long as their stomach hurts. In fact, this is incorrect. During childbirth, avoid the following incorrect methods of pushing. Loud moaning or yelling during childbirth will not only fail to relieve the pain of uterine contractions during labor, but may also cause maternal hypoxia due to hyperventilation, and reduce the amount of blood circulating in the fetal brain, umbilical cord, uterus, and placenta, leading to secondary alkalinity. If a pregnant mother holds her breath and pushes during the first stage of labor (when the cervix is dilating), she will consume her physical strength prematurely, resulting in an inability to use strength when she really needs to push in the later stages of labor. Moreover, holding the breath for too long can easily lead to respiratory acidosis. When the fetal head is about to be delivered, push down. When the fetal head is about to be delivered, still hold your breath and push down. This may cause the fetus to be delivered too quickly and cause perineal lacerations in the mother.
