What are the causes of irregular menstruation

Irregular menstruation is a manifestation of abnormal menstruation in women and is a common clinical disease. Many girls don’t know what causes irregular menstruation. Excluding irregular lifestyle and diet, many disease factors are also a major cause of irregular menstruation.

1. Caused by organic diseases or drugs (25%):

Including local inflammation of the reproductive organs, tumors and developmental abnormalities, malnutrition, intracranial diseases, other endocrine dysfunctions such as thyroid and adrenal cortex dysfunction, diabetes, Sheehan's disease, liver disease, blood diseases, etc., those who use drugs to treat mental illnesses, endocrine preparations or intrauterine contraceptive devices may experience irregular menstruation. Certain occupations such as long-distance runners are prone to amenorrhea. In addition, some abnormal bleeding during pregnancy is often mistaken for irregular menstruation. In clinical diagnosis of neuroendocrine dysfunctional menstrual disorders, the above-mentioned organic causes must be excluded.

2. Abnormal emotions cause menstrual disorders (20%):

Abnormal emotions, long-term mental depression, sulking, or suffering from major mental stimulation and psychological trauma can all lead to menstrual disorders or dysmenorrhea, or amenorrhea. This is because menstruation is formed after the hormones secreted by the ovaries stimulate the endometrium, and the hormones secreted by the ovaries are controlled by the release of hormones from the pituitary gland and hypothalamus. Therefore, any abnormality in the function of the ovaries, pituitary gland, or hypothalamus will affect menstruation.

3. Cold stimulation causes oligomenorrhea or even amenorrhea (20%):

Irregular daily life: According to research, women exposed to cold stimulation during menstruation will cause excessive contraction of blood vessels in the pelvis, which can cause oligomenorrhea or even amenorrhea. Therefore, women should have a regular daily life and avoid excessive fatigue, especially during menstruation, to keep away cold and moisture.

4. Diet causes irregular menstruation (15%):

Expert studies on excessive dieting show that girls need body fat to account for at least 17% of their body weight for menarche to occur, and body fat must reach at least 22% of their body weight to maintain a normal menstrual cycle. Excessive dieting can cause the body to consume a large amount of fat and protein due to insufficient energy intake, resulting in estrogen synthesis disorders and obvious deficiency, affecting menstruation, and even causing scanty menstruation or amenorrhea. Therefore, women who pursue a slim figure must not diet blindly.
