What is the cause of vulvar atrophy? It may be physiological atrophy

Vulvar atrophy can be mainly divided into two phenomena: normal physiological vulvar atrophy and case-related vulvar atrophy. Among them, pathological vulvar atrophy is mostly caused by inflammatory stimulation or injury to the perineum.

1. Normal physiological atrophy. In middle-aged and elderly women after menopause, ovarian function declines, estrogen secretion levels decrease, and target organs atrophy accordingly. The vulva atrophy caused by this situation does not affect the morphology of the vulva.

2. Atrophic vulvar leukoplakia. The disease is caused by disorders in the subcutaneous microcirculation of the vulva and metabolic dysfunction, which lead to varying degrees of itching, thickening or thinning of the epidermal keratinization, dryness, atrophy and other symptoms in the vulvar skin, tissues and mucous membranes. The vulvar atrophy is not obvious in the early stage. If it is not treated in time and cared for, factors such as gynecological inflammation, birth trauma, and allergies will aggravate the symptoms of vulvar leukoplakia.

3. Inflammatory stimulation: Inflammation can cause local nerve and blood vessel damage in the vulva. A small number of postpartum women may suffer from trichomoniasis, candidal vaginitis, cervical erosion and other inflammations, which can cause increased vaginal secretions and abnormal leucorrhea. Long-term stimulation of the vulva can cause vulvar leukoplakia.

4. Perineal trauma: The female perineum may be traumatized due to certain factors. For example, vaginal delivery during pregnancy may cause perineal tearing, which may damage the local nerves and blood vessels of the perineum and may lead to vulvar leukoplakia. However, this phenomenon is relatively rare in clinical practice, so female friends can rest assured.
