Ectopic pregnancy scar picture

Ectopic pregnancy is a condition in which the sperm and egg combine outside the uterus and the embryo implants and grows. Although it is an ectopic pregnancy, the time and circumstances of discovery are different for different women. However, the final result of ectopic pregnancy is the removal of the ectopic embryo tissue. So, will ectopic pregnancy cause scars?

1. Different women discover ectopic pregnancy at different times. In most cases of ectopic pregnancy, during the stage of sperm and egg combination and embryo implantation, there will be a relatively slow rise rate of human chorionic gonadotropin, and some women will also experience varying degrees of abdominal pain and bleeding. If you choose drugs to treat ectopic pregnancy at this stage, it will not leave scars.

2. For some women with ectopic pregnancy, serious damage to the fallopian tubes may have already occurred when they are discovered. In this case, it is necessary to perform a laparotomy on the woman with ectopic pregnancy according to the doctor's advice. This not only removes the embryo tissue of the ectopic pregnancy, but also treats the damaged bilateral fallopian tubes, which may leave scars.

3. When ectopic pregnancy is discovered, the sperm and egg have already started to grow and develop, and have not yet caused damage to other organs of the body, many doctors may recommend laparoscopic surgery, which can solve the problem of ectopic pregnancy and will not cause the influence of open surgery on the body, but it may also leave scars of considerable area.

Causes

1. Fallopian tube inflammation

It can be divided into bilateral tubal mucositis and bilateral tubal periarthritis, both of which are common causes of tubal pregnancy. Severe cases of bilateral tubal mucositis can cause complete blockage of the tubal lumen and lead to infertility. In mild cases, bilateral tubal mucosal adhesions and microvilli damage will affect the operation of sperm-egg combination and cause embryo implantation at this point. Salpingitis caused by gonococci and mycoplasma often invades the mucosa, while miscarriage or infection after delivery usually causes bilateral perisalpingitis.

2. Fallopian tube surgery

If bilateral fallopian tube recanalization or fistula occurs after bilateral fallopian tube sterilization, there is a possibility of tubal pregnancy, especially for bilateral fallopian tube sterilization with electrocoagulation and silicone rubber ring surgery under laparoscopic surgery; if bilateral fallopian tube separation and adhesion surgery, bilateral fallopian tube repair surgery such as bilateral salpingectomy and bilateral fallopian tube opening surgery are performed due to infertility, the incidence of subsequent tubal pregnancy is 10% to 20%.

3. Bilateral fallopian tube dysplasia or abnormal function

Bilateral tubal dysgenesis is often manifested by the fact that the bilateral fallopian tubes are too long, the myometrium grows poorly, and the mucosal microvilli are deficient. In addition, bilateral fallopian tubes, diverticula or accessory umbrellas can all be the cause of tubal pregnancy. If the metabolism of estrogen and progesterone is disordered, it may affect the normal operation of sperm and egg fusion. In addition, mental factors can also cause bilateral fallopian tube spasms and abnormal intestinal peristalsis, affecting the transportation of sperm and egg combination;

4. Sperm and egg combined to walk

The egg cell is fertilized in the bilateral fallopian tube on one side, and the sperm and egg combine to enter the bilateral fallopian tube on the other side through the uterine cavity or abdomen, which is called sperm and egg combination movement. If the migration time is too long, the sperm and egg will combine, grow, and expand, and the embryo will implant in the other bilateral fallopian tube and cause a tubal pregnancy.

5. Assisted reproductive technology

From the earliest artificial insemination to the current use of common ovulation-inducing drugs, as well as in vitro fertilization-test tube transfer (1VF-ET) or gamete bilateral intrafallopian tube transfer (GIFT), ectopic pregnancies can occur, with an incidence rate of about 5%, which is higher than the incidence rate of ectopic pregnancies caused by general reasons. The relevant risk factors include bilateral fallopian tube disease before surgery, history of pelvic surgery, technical factors of transplanting test tube embryos, the number and quality of implanted test tube embryos, hormone environment, and excessive transplant fluid during test tube transplantation.

6. Others

Compression of the bilateral fallopian tubes by surrounding tumors, such as uterine fibroids or uterine and ovarian tumors, especially adhesion of the bilateral fallopian tubes and surrounding tissues of the uterus and ovaries caused by endometriosis, can also affect the smoothness of the bilateral fallopian tube lumen and hinder the combination of sperm and egg. There are also scientific studies that believe that defects in test tube embryos themselves, abortion surgery, smoking, etc. are also related to the occurrence of ectopic pregnancy.
