What to do if a pregnant woman has facial paralysis

Facial paralysis is also called facial nerve paralysis. It is caused by movement dysfunction of our facial muscles due to certain reasons. The most common disease among patients with facial paralysis is facial paralysis, which is prone to occur at all ages. After an attack, patients cannot raise their eyebrows normally or close their eyes normally. Women are prone to facial paralysis due to inadequate care after childbirth.

During the treatment, you can apply hot compresses locally with a hot towel for 10 minutes each time, twice a day. For those with incomplete eyelid closure, apply eye drops 2 to 3 times a day to prevent infection. Patients should avoid wind and cold and wear eye masks and shields for protection. Patients should massage the paralyzed facial muscles by themselves and perform appropriate functional exercises. During the treatment, avoid watching TV or using computer for long periods of time to prevent excessive eye strain, which may lead to eye fatigue and affect the efficacy of the treatment.

Traditional Chinese Medicine: Acupuncture therapy: The commonly used acupuncture points are Yifeng, Xiaguan, Jiache, Yangbai, etc., and the auxiliary points can be Sibai, Yuyao, Dicang, Hegu, etc. Acupuncture should use weak stimulation techniques, and can adopt Dicang through the cheek car, Yangbai through the fish waist and other techniques, alternately use them every day. Acupuncture is performed once a day, with the needles retained for 20 minutes each time. Ten days of continuous treatment constitute one course of treatment. Generally, 2 to 3 courses of treatment are required. Massage therapy: Use your palms and a hot towel to massage the affected muscles on the maxillofacial area from bottom to top, 3 to 4 times a day, each time for 10 minutes. It can improve the blood circulation in the face of patients with facial paralysis and stimulate their paralyzed facial expression muscles.

The main principle of treating facial paralysis in women after childbirth is to promote the disappearance of inflammation, improve facial edema, and gradually promote the recovery of facial nerve function. If the facial paralysis is caused by a viral infection, the specific virus should be identified and antiviral treatment should be selected according to the condition. Some women suffer from nutritional neurological facial paralysis due to postpartum malnutrition. At this time, they should pay attention to nutritional conditioning.
