Diagram of cervical canal disappearance

After ten months of pregnancy, mothers always imagine the day when their newborn is born, but it is also the most difficult time for mothers. Only when the cervix is eroded can the baby be born sooner. So how can you feel out the cervix?

Cervical effacement means that the length of the cervix during labor is about 2 cm. Before and after labor, the internal os of the cervix expands upward and outward, and the cervical canal forms a Brugner funnel shape. Then the cervical canal gradually shortens until it effaces and becomes a part below the uterus.

To determine whether the cervix has eroded after the baby is about to be born, a gynecologist needs to perform a vaginal digital examination, or a midwife needs to perform a rectal digital examination to make the diagnosis. Mothers do not know whether the cervix has ebbed from their feeling. If they have regular uterine contractions, they can go to the obstetrics department of the hospital for examination and diagnosis. If amniotic fluid has already leaked, you need to go to the hospital for examination immediately. Generally, for the first pregnancy, it takes one or two days for the cervix to loosen and efface, and delivery will occur about three or four days after loosening. The specific time depends on the rupture of membranes. The time for the second pregnancy will be shorter. The actual time is different for everyone and is also related to one’s own standards.

There is no exact time for this. If you have abdominal pain or spotting during pregnancy, you should go to the hospital for examination immediately. If the baby's fetal movement is good, you can wait patiently. After the cervical canal recedes, the speed of the baby's birth is related to the contraction of the uterus. If the uterus contracts regularly and the cervical opening dilates completely, the baby will be born in about 15 hours. The erosion of the cervical canal can only be understood by a doctor through examination. If a pregnant woman feels that the baby is about to be born, she can go to the doctor for examination.
