What are the symptoms of a double uterus?

When it comes to double uterus, many people may not have heard of it. Double uterus is an internal organ of the female body. If a woman has not undergone an ultrasound examination, she may not even be able to tell whether she has double uterus. Double uterus is another uterus in the female body. It is caused by female congenital disease. So what are the general symptoms of double uterus?

The difference between double vagina and double uterus

Double uterus and double vagina are both common genital malformations in clinical practice. The two are often combined, but they can be distinguished from each other in five aspects: definition, formation, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment.

1. Definition: Double vagina is caused by the disappearance of part of the septum after the fusion of the paramesonephric ducts on both sides, forming an incomplete septum. If the septum does not disappear, it will lead to a complete septum and form a double vagina. Double uterus is a reproductive tract malformation. It occurs when the Mullerian ducts on both sides develop normally but do not completely fuse during embryonic development, and each develops into a double uterus with its own fallopian tubes, each of which has its own function.

2. Formation: Double vagina is caused by the disappearance or partial disappearance of the caudal mediastinum after the bilateral paramesonephric ducts merge. As for the double uterus, the two side accessory median tubes are not fused, and each develops into two uteruses and two cervixes. The two cervixes may be separate or connected, and there may be a communicating tube between the cervixes. Alternatively, one side of the uterus may be underdeveloped or absent, often with a small channel connecting to the opposite vagina.

3. Symptoms: Both types of diseases usually have no conscious symptoms. The former is discovered only after sexual discomfort, long-term infertility or gynecological examination; the latter is usually discovered during artificial abortion, prenatal examination or even delivery.

4. Diagnosis: Double vagina is a type of vaginal malformation. Sometimes, two vaginal openings can be seen with the naked eye, but there are also cases where there is only one opening and a longitudinal septum extending inward to separate the two vaginas. Therefore, you should go to a regular hospital for a gynecological examination to make a clear diagnosis. A double uterus needs to be detected through B-ultrasound or hysterosalpingography.

5. Treatment: For asymptomatic double vagina, surgical treatment is not necessary for the time being; for symptomatic patients, mediastinectomy can be performed. If labor has already begun and the fetal presenting part is blocked from descending, the septum can be cut along the midline and slightly trimmed after delivery. Women with double uterus can undergo hysteroscopic treatment to reshape the uterus and restore uterine function. You can also take endocrine drugs to restore the uterus's ability to reproduce and thus restore pregnancy function, but this method is not very effective.
