Do birth control pills cause women's eggs to age?

In today's increasingly open society, with the continuous development of technology, both unmarried women and married women will choose contraceptives and not have children in order to maintain a world of two. However, everyone knows that long-term use of contraceptives has great side effects on female friends. So, does long-term use of contraceptives cause female eggs to age? Contraceptives cause female eggs to age. Recently, according to relevant media reports, women who take birth control pills for a long time are very likely to cause their eggs to age. This research is based on the results of multiple fertility tests and its authenticity is very reliable.

According to the study, in younger women taking birth control pills, the hormone levels that allow them to create mature, healthy eggs are more similar to those of older women.

Women who take birth control pills have fewer follicles in their ovaries that can develop into viable eggs.

However, many relevant researchers said that the new research results do not mean that the so-called contraceptive pills can make the eggs of many women mature earlier. On the contrary, it makes them look older.

Instead, the findings suggest that birth control pills mask a woman's underlying fertility condition, so tests commonly used to assess female fertility should not be done on women who are taking birth control pills, said Dr. Lubana Pal, director of the menopause and PCOS program at Yale University in Connecticut.

Pal was not involved in the study, but said "women should not be horrified that they are losing their eggs" if they are using birth control. "These 'tests' are simply measures that should be used to assess fertility."

Ovarian Reserve A woman's "ovarian reserve" is a measure of how well her ovaries will produce mature eggs, or how well an egg can be fertilized. As women age, their ovarian reserve decreases, and their eggs become fewer and fewer mature.

According to most relevant medical research, by measuring the level of anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) in women's blood and performing vaginal ultrasound examinations on women, the number of follicles in women's ovaries can be calculated. In this way, the ovarian reserve function of women can be evaluated.

In short, these two indicators are closely related to how a woman's ovaries age (the closer a woman is to menopause, the lower these test values tend to be).

In the new study, researchers looked at 833 Danish women aged 18 to 46, including some who had used oral contraceptives. Two indicators of their ovarian reserve function were recorded.

Compared with women who did not take birth control pills, the women who took the pill had 19% lower AMH levels, 16% fewer early-stage follicles, and much smaller ovaries.

The effects remained even when the researchers adjusted for other factors known to influence these measures, such as the women's body mass index (BMI) and whether they smoked.

Expected Results The findings make sense from a biological perspective, Pal said.

As the follicles mature through the various stages, levels of the hormones the researchers tested generally increase, a process similar to a production line.

"So if you suppress ovarian function, especially with high-dose oral contraceptives, you are slowing down the production line," Pal said.

But this doesn't mean that the quality of these women's eggs is permanently reduced, Pal said. Instead, hormonal contraception simply puts a woman's egg maturation process at an earlier stage. Women who become pregnant may see a similar drop in their AMH levels, but they quickly rise back up after conception.

This is the detailed answer to the question of whether long-term use of contraceptives will cause women's eggs to age. I believe that now everyone should have a deeper understanding and knowledge. I hope that many female friends must weigh the pros and cons based on their own circumstances when choosing contraceptive measures, and try to choose measures with less harm.
