How to treat vulvar itching?

Vulvar itching in women is a very common abnormal symptom. Such vaginal itching can also cause a lot of trouble to women's bodies. When itching is uncomfortable, they want to scratch with their hands regardless of the occasion. If they scratch with their hands for a long time, many people feel embarrassed, because young people nowadays are working. If they keep scratching while working, it means they don't pay attention to their image. It's too uncomfortable to hold it in. So when it comes to treatment, how should vulvar itching be treated?

What should women do if they have vulvar itching? Why does vulvar itching occur? According to experts, there are two types of causes for vulvar itching in women: local causes and systemic causes.

1. Local causes

(1) Special infections: Candida vaginitis and Trichomonas vaginitis are the most common causes of vulvar itching. Pubic lice and scabies can also cause itching. Itching around the anus and vulva of young girls caused by pinworm infection usually occurs at night.

(2) Chronic vulvar dystrophy: The main symptom is severe itching, accompanied by whitening of the vulvar skin.

(3) Drug allergy or chemical irritation: Soap, condoms, Chlorhexidine, etc. can cause contact or allergic dermatitis due to direct irritation or allergy, resulting in symptoms of vulvar itching.

(4) Bad hygiene habits: Not paying attention to the local cleanliness of the vulva, sebum, sweat, menstrual blood, vaginal secretions, and even urine and feces can cause long-term stimulation to the vulva and cause itching; using unclean menstrual belts during menstruation and wearing non-breathable synthetic underwear can induce itching due to the accumulation of damp heat.

(5) Other skin lesions: abrasions, common warts, herpes, eczema, tumors, etc. can all cause vulvar itching.

2. Systemic causes

(1) Diabetes: Due to the irritation of diabetes to the vulvar skin, especially when accompanied by candidal vulvitis, vulvar itching is severe. Many patients first seek medical attention due to vulvar itching and redness, and are only diagnosed with diabetes after further examination.

(2) When patients with jaundice, vitamin A and B deficiency, anemia, leukemia and other chronic diseases experience vulvar itching, it is often part of generalized itching.

(3) Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy may also cause itching of the skin all over the body, including the vulva.

(4) During pregnancy and premenstrual period, the vulva becomes congested, which may occasionally cause vulvar itching and discomfort.

(5) Unexplained vulvar pruritus: Some patients experience severe vulvar pruritus, but no obvious systemic or local cause can be found. Some scholars currently believe that it may be related to mental or psychological factors.

Experts say that some women wash their vulva with hot water when they have vulvar itching, saying that this is very comfortable; some women wash excessively with cleaning products such as soap, and some women choose some "relieving" drugs. But in fact, this approach is wrong. A gynecological expert from Shenyang New Era Women's Hospital said that the correct way to relieve vulvar itching is to examine and confirm the cause of the disease, and at the same time as the treatment, apply a thick cold towel to the vulva, wash the towel every 3 minutes, and do not let it get hot. Continue to apply cold compress until the itching stops. If it itches again, apply it again until it is healed.

If you have vulvar itching, you can choose these methods for treatment. However, the treatment methods for vulvar itching introduced above need to be determined according to the various causes of vulvar itching. If vulvar itching is caused by gynecological diseases, then these diseases must be treated in time. Vulvar itching may also be caused by bacterial infection, so it is necessary to control the infection and do a good job of local cleaning and care.
