When does menstruation come while breastfeeding

Some mothers have been worrying about when their menstrual period will come after giving birth. Some mothers say that their period will not come during breastfeeding, but some mothers say that it will come soon. So how long does it take for the period to come during breastfeeding?

Everyone's health condition is different. Some people may have their period only after breastfeeding is completed, but some people may have their period right away. It's all normal, and mothers don't need to worry.

If you are exclusively breastfeeding and everything is normal, you will not have your period during the entire breastfeeding period. If you get your period one or two months after giving birth, it means your uterus is not repaired well. Some people have their menstrual period more than a month after giving birth, and only have their period again after weaning. This also happens. You should pay attention to this situation. It is very easy to get pregnant, so you should pay attention to taking good contraceptive measures on a regular basis.

From a medical point of view, based on the tissue shape of the uterine wall, the uterus and ovaries may ovulate as early as 33-42 days after giving birth. In addition, the presence of progesterone after ovulation can also be observed 6 weeks after giving birth. Therefore, if the mother does not breastfeed, menstruation usually comes within 6-8 weeks after giving birth. Scientific research data show that 40% of pregnant women who do not breastfeed resume ovulation 6 weeks after giving birth; by 8-12 weeks after giving birth, only about 35% of pregnant women have not resumed ovulation and menstruation.

For breastfeeding pregnant women, about 25% will resume ovulation and menstruation 12 weeks after giving birth, and most breastfeeding pregnant women generally take until 18 weeks to resume ovulation function. However, it is sometimes difficult to clinically determine the exact time of the first menstrual period after childbirth, and a very small number of pregnant women will begin to have light to moderate intermittent bleeding immediately after delivery.

For new mothers who breastfeed their babies, ovulation and menstruation will resume later, and some mothers may not get their period until a year later. For most people, the first menstrual flow is heavier than usual, and the second menstrual period is normal, so no treatment is needed.

There is one thing to pay special attention to: the first menstrual-like vaginal bleeding after giving birth is regarded by many mothers as menarche. In fact, according to ovulation temperature measurement, 60% of them are anovulatory, strictly speaking, anovulatory menstruation, which cannot be regarded as a real menstrual period. The bleeding and duration are more than normal menstruation, and the menstrual cycle is also irregular. Therefore, many mothers will have abnormal menstruation for a period of time after giving birth.

When menstruation begins, the amount of milk a breastfeeding mother produces generally decreases, and the quality of the protein and fat in the breast milk also changes slightly, with a higher protein content and a slightly lower fat content. This type of milk may sometimes cause indigestion in babies, but it is a temporary condition and will recover after the menstrual period. Therefore, mothers do not need to stop breastfeeding whether they are in their menstrual period or after their menstrual period.
