Is acute mastitis during breastfeeding dangerous?

Female friends suffer from mastitis during lactation, which is the so-called acute lactation mastitis. This disease is a common disease in women after childbirth and is also a common cause of fever in women after childbirth. There is no need to worry too much about acute lactation mastitis. This disease can often be treated with local physical therapy or hot compresses, and the inflammation will dissipate in the early stages. Only when the inflammation is very severe can systemic anti-infection treatment be considered.

Acute mastitis mostly occurs in primiparas who lack breastfeeding experience. The first month after delivery is the peak period for acute mastitis. After 6 months, babies begin to grow teeth, and the nipples are easily damaged at this stage, so care should be taken to prevent it. During the weaning period, you should be more vigilant about the occurrence of acute mastitis. If you have acute mastitis, you will initially feel breast pain, local lumps and swelling; as the disease progresses, you may also become afraid of cold, have chills, or have a sudden rise in body temperature, sometimes to over 39 degrees. Generally, only one side of the breast shows symptoms of inflammation. The affected breast is so painful that it cannot be pressed, and the local skin is hot, red and swollen, and has lumps. The lymph nodes in the armpit on the same side are swollen and painful when pressed. If you go to the hospital for a routine blood test, it will show a significant increase in the number of white blood cells.

When acute mastitis occurs, breastfeeding should generally not be stopped, because stopping breastfeeding not only affects infant feeding, but also increases the chance of milk stasis. Therefore, when you feel breast pain, swelling or even local redness of the skin, not only should you not stop breastfeeding, but you should also feed your baby frequently so that the baby can drink up as much milk as possible from your breasts.

In fact, there are many ways to prevent acute mastitis during lactation. For example, during lactation, you must pay great attention to the cleanliness of the breasts and try to wash the breasts every day. This will not only help prevent mastitis, but also allow the child to drink more hygienic water. Secondly, after feeding every day, it is best to give your breasts a health massage.
