Effects of cervical resection on women

Effects of cervical resection on women

Currently, many women are troubled by gynecological diseases, and some serious gynecological diseases often have a great impact on women. Currently, many women have their cervix removed due to personal circumstances. We also know that any organ in the body is very important. So what kind of impact will it have on women after their cervix is removed? Let us learn about the relevant content together.

Hysterectomy is one of the most common gynecological surgeries, in which the uterus is completely or partially removed through the abdomen or vagina. A total hysterectomy is a complete removal of the uterine body and cervix; a subtotal hysterectomy is a surgery that removes the uterine body but preserves the cervix. Studies have shown that total hysterectomy itself does not have a significant impact on the patient's sexual behavior. About 40% of patients recover after surgery as well as before the operation; only about 25% have a reduced frequency of sexual life or have problems; a few who cannot resume their sexual life do so because of postoperative fear or the misunderstanding that they need to abstain from sex after surgery. Some patients worry that they will no longer be women after a hysterectomy and are afraid to have sexual intercourse. Actually, it is not. Female sexual characteristics are maintained by the secretion of female hormones by the ovaries. The uterus only plays an important role in the nurturing of the fetus. When there is no need to have children, simply removing the uterus and retaining the ovaries can still maintain the normal physiological characteristics of women. The effects of cervical removal are as follows:

Symptoms of depression

The endocrine regulation of the uterus and ovaries forms a feedback system with the central nervous system. After the hysterectomy, this feedback link is destroyed. In particular, when the estrogen level drops, it will interfere with the normal secretion and metabolism of central neurotransmitters, which can cause varying degrees of anxiety and depression symptoms, such as low mood, anxiety, lack of interest, insomnia, memory loss, etc., thereby reducing women's quality of life.

Urinary symptoms

The female urinary system is homologous to the reproductive system and is both an estrogen-dependent organ. After hysterectomy, the estrogen level decreases, which can cause the elastic tissue around the urethra to thin, resulting in urinary incontinence, atrophy of the urethral mucosa, decreased resistance, and easy induction of urinary tract infection, and a series of urinary tract irritation symptoms such as frequent urination, urgency, and pain when urinating.

Sexual dysfunction

Estrogen is the most important regulating hormone for female sexual function, and the ovaries are the main secretory organs. After hysterectomy, the blood supply and function of the ovaries are affected. Most women will experience varying degrees of changes in sexual function, such as decreased or lack of libido, decreased frequency of sexual activity, decreased sexual responsiveness, difficulty in orgasm, and decreased sensation in the reproductive organs.

Ovarian dysfunction

Before menopause, the endocrine system between the uterus and ovaries maintains a precise and subtle dynamic balance. Hysterectomy will inevitably disrupt this balance and may cause ovarian function to decline, making menopausal symptoms earlier and more obvious.

The impact of cervical removal on women is relatively large, not only leading to sexual dysfunction but also ovarian dysfunction. Therefore, in order to reduce the harm caused by diseases to the body, female friends must take good care of their bodies in daily life and never over-exercise their bodies. It is best to have a physical examination regularly.
