What should pregnant women eat for constipation?

It is an extremely common phenomenon for pregnant women to suffer from constipation due to internal heat. Statistics have found that more than 90% of pregnant women suffer from constipation to varying degrees. After pregnancy, the pressure of the uterus on the rectum will be more severe, so constipation is more likely to occur. In addition, after pregnancy, the body's production of progesterone increases, and the tension of gastrointestinal smooth muscle is reduced due to the influence of progesterone, which in turn reduces peristaltic function and ultimately leads to constipation.

According to traditional Chinese medicine, constipation in pregnant women is mostly caused by internal yin deficiency, insufficient yin blood, dry intestines and lack of body fluid, and loss of intestinal moisture. So what should pregnant women with constipation eat? First of all, they should drink more water, eat more vegetables, fruits, corn, soybeans, celery, cabbage and whole grains, increase dietary fiber intake, develop the habit of regular bowel movements, and strengthen exercise. You can also drink honey every day. Active natural mature honey has the effects of relieving deficiency, moistening dryness and relieving constipation, relieving cough and moistening the lungs.

If pregnant women suffer from constipation, they should adjust their diet and eat more foods that are high in water, foods that promote intestinal peristalsis, foods rich in fiber, and foods that are high in residues and fat.

Foods high in water content: juice, milk, and soft drinks. Foods that promote intestinal motility: honey, jam, sweet juice, maltose. Foods rich in crude fiber: mung beans, red beans, peas, broad beans, edamame, oatmeal, corn, seaweed, chrysanthemum, green peppers, rapeseed, cabbage, leeks, celery, bean sprouts, pumpkin, cucumber, yam, sweet potato, almonds, chestnuts, strawberries, apples, bananas, grapes, plums, and pears.

Foods rich in fat: sesame, walnut kernels, and peanut kernels. Foods with a lot of residue: seaweed and mushrooms.

If a pregnant woman suffers from constipation, she can drink light salt water on an empty stomach every morning, which has a good laxative effect. However, it should be noted that pregnant women with high blood pressure should not drink light salt water frequently to avoid excessive salt intake which may lead to high blood pressure. Drinking honey water has the effect of moistening the intestines and promoting bowel movements. Pregnant women can eat honey appropriately after getting a sore throat.
