What are the adverse effects of congenital vaginal malformations?

Congenital vaginal malformation is a cause of infertility in women. Even after women become pregnant, it may cause premature birth, miscarriage, fetal malformation, etc. due to various reasons. In fact, during the examination, if congenital vaginal malformations are found, it is best to receive timely treatment. Let us now understand the main adverse effects that congenital vaginal malformations can have on women’s health.

Abnormal development and dysfunction of the female reproductive tract include congenital developmental malformations and dysfunction of the uterus, cervix, vagina and fallopian tubes, often combined with multiple system malformations such as urinary and skeletal systems, which have varying degrees of impact on the patient's reproductive capacity, mainly manifested as amenorrhea, infertility, recurrent miscarriage, premature birth, etc. Among them, uterine malformation is the most common.

Some patients with reproductive tract developmental abnormalities may have normal menstruation and sexual life, and no abnormalities in pregnancy and childbirth. The disease is often discovered accidentally during physical examinations, or may go undetected throughout life. However, most patients may show reproductive dysfunction, such as infertility, recurrent miscarriage, premature birth, fetal growth restriction, abnormal fetal position, abnormal delivery period, etc. The degree of impact varies depending on the type of deformity. Among them, uterine malformation is the most common and has a more serious impact on fertility.

(I) Infertility: Congenital absence of vagina is often accompanied by absence of uterus, or a primordial uterus or an immature uterus. Such patients have no possibility of pregnancy. In cases of hymen obliterans and complete transverse vaginal septum, there is a chance of pregnancy after surgery. Obstructive malformations cause retrograde menstrual blood flow, which can lead to pelvic adhesions and endometriosis, and is also a cause of infertility. Such patients should be diagnosed and treated surgically as soon as possible.

(II) Pathological pregnancy miscarriage and premature birth: (1) The abnormally developed uterus has insufficient blood supply after pregnancy, with only one side of the blood vessel supplying blood. The decidua is poorly formed after pregnancy, which affects the growth and development of the fetus and causes miscarriage, such as didherty uterus and unicornuate uterus. (2) Septate uterus: If the fertilized egg implants in the septum, the vascularization of the septum mucosa is poor and the uterine decidua is poorly formed, the blood supply to the embryo is insufficient, resulting in miscarriage.

There are many types of vaginal deformities, each of which can cause a lot of harm to women's bodies. Once discovered, it is best to choose some professional hospitals for treatment in time. Try to stay positive and optimistic during the treatment. Pregnant women should have regular prenatal checkups to ensure the health of the fetus.
