Do women need calcium supplements during menopause?

Female friends always experience some discomfort during menopause. In addition to frequent redness of the face, becoming more emotional, and menstruation abnormalities, they are also prone to osteoporosis. Therefore, during menopause, proper calcium supplementation is very important for health. Below, the editor will introduce some methods that menopausal women can use to supplement calcium.

Osteoporosis is a common disease among women in middle and old age. The key to its prevention and treatment is to maintain adequate calcium intake. This is a long process that extends from before a woman enters menopause to old age. To this end, every woman should master the principles of calcium supplementation.

(1) Early supplementation. The calcium "expenditure" in women's bodies begins to exceed "income" around the age of 40, so calcium supplements should generally be taken from this time on.

Accordingly, the prevention of osteoporosis should be given attention before menopause.

(2) Dietary supplements. People need to eat every day. They should pay attention to choosing the types of food, try to use foods high in calcium, consciously supplement calcium from them, and persist in doing so for a long time.

(3) Pay attention to the timing of intake. Milk has the highest calcium content, and the intestine can absorb calcium within 3-5 hours after a meal. The excretion of calcium in urine is mainly transferred from the blood into the urine. The urinary calcium excreted on an empty stomach after falling asleep at night almost entirely comes from the loss of bone calcium. Therefore, it is more appropriate to drink milk before going to bed. At the same time, drinking milk before going to bed can also improve sleep. Here we would like to remind you that some foods with high animal protein and sodium content will increase

In addition to urinary calcium excretion, the aluminum in antacids can also significantly increase calcium loss. Therefore, when supplementing calcium, you should pay attention to the influence of these factors or stagger the time of taking the medicine. In addition, it is best not to take calcium supplements on an empty stomach, otherwise it will not be absorbed well, but should be taken after meals.

(4) Selection of calcium supplements. Traditional calcium gluconate is rarely used because it contains too little calcium. Currently recommended are calcium carbonate and calcium glucuronate. The requirements for this type of calcium supplement are: high calcium content, moderate price, easy absorption, no sodium, potassium, sugar, cholesterol and preservatives, no effect on patients with diabetes (special interview consultation), kidney disease, and hypertension (special interview consultation), and it is best to contain vitamin D at the same time. This type of calcium supplement, such as Calcium-D, contains 600 mg of calcium per tablet and vitamin D3. It is easily absorbed after taking and is suitable for the calcium supplement needs of middle-aged and elderly women.

There are many sources of calcium in our lives. In addition to dietary supplements, when you feel that your body is severely deficient in calcium, you should also promptly choose some medicines with better calcium supplement effects. Regular exposure to the sun can promote the rapid synthesis of vitamin D in the human body. Vitamin D is an important element that promotes calcium absorption, so it is also very beneficial for calcium supplementation.
