Can confinement cure disease?

Everyone knows that every pregnant woman will have a period of recuperation after giving birth, and this period of time is called confinement. Maybe many of you know that the purpose of confinement is to make up for the damage to the body caused by childbirth, but some people may hear that confinement can actually be a good treatment for previous illnesses, especially rheumatic diseases. So, can confinement cure diseases?

Can effectively relieve previous rheumatic diseases

Due to heavy bleeding during childbirth, sweating, back pain and abdominal pain, the mother's physical strength is greatly depleted, and her qi, blood, tendons and bones are very weak. At this time, she is easily attacked by wind and cold, and needs some time to recuperate. Therefore, she must take a confinement month after delivery to recover her health. The purpose of confinement is to do moderate exercise and rest, proper food supplements and diet therapy during this period, which can restore the uterus to its pre-delivery size, and the qi and blood can be restored through conditioning, or even better than before, thus slowly changing the bad physical condition during this period.

What are the basic principles of confinement?

1 Be careful of cold and heat

As the temperature and humidity of the climate and living environment change, the clothing worn by the mother and the electrical equipment used indoors should be appropriately adjusted. The indoor temperature should be about 25 to 26 degrees Celsius, and the humidity should be about 50% to 60%. Long sleeves, long pants, and socks should be worn to avoid catching a cold or having the joints invaded by wind, cold, and moisture.

2. Proper work and rest

Moderate labor and rest are very helpful for the discharge of lochia and the recovery of muscles, bones and body shape. In the early days after delivery, when the mother feels weak, dizzy, and fatigued, she must rest in bed more. The time she gets up should not exceed half an hour. When her physical strength gradually recovers, the time can be extended a little, but the time is still limited to 1 to 2 hours to avoid standing or sitting for a long time, which will cause low back pain, leg pain, knee and ankle pain.

3. Clean frequently

Hair and body should be washed regularly to keep them clean and avoid bacterial infection and inflammation.

4. Adjust your diet

The first three items are the same for everyone, but diet should be different due to individual physical differences. Furthermore, there may be problems with postpartum lochia discharge and breastfeeding, or if there are colds, headaches, mouth sores, itchy skin, stomachaches and other diseases, diet and medication must be changed. In ancient times, due to the simple environment, poor living conditions and the lack of electrical appliances, the regulations were stricter, and there was a restriction of not washing hair or taking a bath for one month. Modern people do not have to work so hard, but the diet during confinement is still mainly warm and nourishing. It is best to ask a doctor to prepare the diet according to your personal constitution.

In fact, when it comes to whether confinement can cure diseases, many people may not understand it at first, but after reading the content above, everyone must have a better understanding. The main purpose of confinement is to recuperate the body and avoid being harmed by wind and cold after delivery. But in certain aspects it can also help the body relieve rheumatic diseases.
