Can I get pregnant if my cytomegalovirus IgG is positive?

A positive rubella virus IgG test indicates a previous infection and the production of antibodies. In fact, it is very common. The vast majority of people have been infected with the rubella virus, so it is normal for the body to be IgG positive. For those with normal immunity and no pregnancy requirements, there is no need to treat it, just regular follow-up will be enough. But if female friends who want a baby need further diagnosis, let’s learn together what to do!

Mother-to-child transmission is the main transmission route of rubella virus. The vast majority of surviving newborns infected with rubella virus have no obvious symptoms and clinical signs. Only about 10% may develop low body weight, jaundice, purpura, splenomegaly, intellectual disability, macular choroiditis of the fundus, brain thickening, microcephaly, etc.

Most patients die within hours to weeks after birth, with a mortality rate of 50-80%. Survivors often have intellectual disabilities, hearing impairment, or late-stage central nervous system damage.

Therefore, for pregnant women who are planning to get pregnant, if the rubella virus IgG is positive, further testing is needed. It is necessary to test whether there is rubella virus in the blood, cervical secretions and urine. If there is a virus, antiviral treatment is required first, and pregnancy can be resumed after the virus is checked and there is no virus replication.

It is possible to get pregnant if the rubella virus IgG is positive. A positive IgG test indicates that you have been infected with this virus before, but if it is IgM negative, it means that you are not infectious. If the rubella virus IgM is positive during the test, it means that the virus is still contagious and you should not get pregnant, because the virus infection will cause fetal malformation, mainly manifested as microcephaly.
