Does high prolactin affect pregnancy?

Does high prolactin affect pregnancy?

Pituitary prolactin is an active polypeptide growth hormone, also called prolactin, which is one of the growth hormones metabolized by the pituitary gland. During the late pregnancy and lactation period of women, pituitary prolactin metabolism is sufficient to promote breast growth and development and milk secretion. As for the standard value of pituitary prolactin, the standard value of pituitary prolactin in pregnant women is 5-25ng/ml. If prolactin is greater than 35ng/ml, it means that pituitary prolactin is elevated, which is medically called hyperprolactinuria, and is a disease of imbalance in the function of the hypothalamic-pituitary-pituitary-gonadal axis.

High prolactin symptoms

1. Menstrual irregularities: 4% for primary amenorrhea, 89% for secondary amenorrhea, and 7% for scanty or too little menstrual blood. Dysfunctional uterine bleeding and luteal dysfunction account for 23% to 77%. The main manifestations of ovulation problems and luteal insufficiency are: scanty menstrual blood volume, amenorrhea, and infertility. Also related to this are habitual abortion, low libido, excessive hair growth, acne, etc. Gynecological examinations can reveal symptoms of estrogen deficiency, such as dry vaginal mucosa and decreased secretions.

2. Milk overflow: Milk can be seen when squeezing both breasts, and fat droplets can be seen under the microscope. In non-tumor type, it is 20.84%. 70.52% of the tumor type. Simple galactorrhea accounts for 63% to 83.55%. The breasts are mostly normal or with lobular hyperplasia or breast hyperplasia.

3. Reduced bone density: HP can cause a long-term decrease in estrogen levels, which can lead to a decrease in normal bone density.

4. When there is a large amount of prolactin, visual impairment, central nervous system diseases, hypopituitarism, cerebral hemorrhage, cerebral tissue rhinorrhoea and other symptoms may occur.

The effects of high prolactin are actually as follows: 1. When prolactin increases, it will inhibit the secretion of gonadotropin, which will lead to the failure of egg development, ovulation and corpus luteum dysfunction, resulting in infertility, which accounts for about 20% of the endocrine factors of infertility. In addition, there are also symptoms such as significantly reduced menstrual volume, infrequent menstruation, and even amenorrhea, milk leaking, and menopausal symptoms; 2. Excessive prolactin makes the uterus and ovaries lose their necessary response ability to gonadotropin, and the production of estrogen and estrogen is significantly reduced, resulting in low levels of estrogen, which plays an important role in pregnancy, and directly affects the reproductive ability.
